Thread: Moving to Europe with Buddy...After Good Info and Personal Experiences

Default Moving to Europe with Buddy...After Good Info and Personal Experiences

Wondering if anyone could help me with advice traveling/moving from Australia over to Europe with thier dogs, Netherlands in particular. After a year or so tackling our visa options I've bitten the bullet and decided to move there to be with my fiancee of 3 years to live for a couple of years. Not taking my boy Buddy isn't even an option. He's moderately young so I think he will handle the trip and change of lifestyle fairly well.

Wondering if anyone could share similar experiences and/or offer me solid info on what I will need to do for him to travel over there.

I had a quick browse for information before the decision was made and it was all a little overwhelming so it would be great to hear first hand from someone with first hand experience. Mainly, What steps did you need to go through beforehand. Preferred travel methods and requirements for the trip and pick up at the other end with regards to possible kenneling or quarantine.

Any info would be highly appreciated. I've so much to sort out before I go but when I know Bud's going to be there everything else will fall into place.
    Cheers, Phil

After dealing with a broken link multiple times last night which led me to create a thread here I have found a seemingly helpful, functional page. I thought I would just share it for the sake of the thread.
If anyone has any further advice or been through a similar experience it would still be great to hear about it. Is there more I need to do than what is listed on the link below?
Its probably obvious I'm freaking out about it a little starting the thread at 3am and replying to it at 7am

Sorry, I cant really help you, but good luck.

We shipped our dogs over to Oz from NZ but the requirements can vary greatly depending on where you are leaving from, and arriving to. Its all pretty simply when leaving NZ as it is a relatively disease free country

No personal experience here but I have heard that taking dogs to Europe is a piece of cake, it's getting them back into Aus that's troublesome with the long quarantine. So if he's going to be an old boy when you move back you might have to weigh up some options, but if you plan on coming back when he's still relatively young then there should be no issues ata ll.

I didn't think any countries in Europe had quarantine for pets? Not having secure borders makes that pretty futile... But sounds like you find the info you were looking for. Good luck on the move! I'm from Belgium originally and I used to ride my push bike over the Dutch border regularly.

When I lived with my parents that was the problem..we took our dogs from country to country all over the world, until we came to Australia and they had to be quarantined.

Good luck with your move...Living in different countries is a great education, you will enjoy it. So different to going somewhere on Holidays

You guys are right. My missus says its eased my mind telling me it's fairly easy going there and also knew of our strict quarantine laws. When it comes to to return she will be leaving her Cats and hamster with a friend because of the headaches. Ideally working out a way to continue upkeep on this house when I live there so I won't be staying for a super long period of time. Just to meet thier requirements for lawful marriage etc. Old or young I'll still visit him as often as possible in quarantine haha He's my boy. Concerns of it breaking his spirit though, Hopefully not. Thank you for you concern Crested Love.

it's a real eye opener. I was fairly wild when I was younger and never put aside the time or money to travel. Regretting it now! Been over there a few times now and can't get enough.

Thanks alot for your encouragement and peace of mind. Best forum experience in a long time lol
Dog people are so cool man Auto forum regulars could learn a thing or two.

After all that multi-quote I forgot to ask my question lol
Is it difficult booking the ticket or just like purchasng any other?
How was ticket price in comparison to your own? Around half the price or there about?

    Thanks

Sometimes talking to a pet travel company is a great idea. They should be even able to advise if he is travelling with you instead of on his own.

These guys arranged one of our pup's trip to Hawaii and were fantastic beyond words. I know them personally and know they will help with basic advice even if you don't end up using their services.
