Default Potential consequences of that "free to good home" ad.

Just read this horrible story of a property near Melbourne that was raided - dogs and goats suspected of being sold for human consumption.

Yeah, I read that earlier this morning. I hope it's an eye opener to owners wanting to regime their animals. However, even if they do put a price on their loved one, there is still a chance they will end up in the same situation

Dogs are a delicacy in quite a few Asian countries, pbk. I don't have a problem with it as such - I know some of you might find that very shocking - as long as the animals are treated well, which in this case presumably they were not. And obviously it is illegal in Australia.

I grew up on horse meat in Belgium. Lots of people here find that shocking too.

I don't find that gross or shocking Beloz, because that is what your culture consists of in Belgium. The thing I find disgusting is that these people are abusing the trust of people who want to find a good home for their pets, just to make a quick buck by slaughtering these (mainly) poor pooches. I mean I understand that a lot of Asian countries eat dogs and such, but doing it on the sly when its illegal here, is brutal. But they sound like very shady people in this article anyway.

I agree OM. It would be incredibly traumatising to those people who thought they had found a great new home for their pooch.

I dont really have a problem with people eating dogs providing the animal is treated well before being eaten. It's not something I personally could do though.

A while ago in NZ, some people were caught with a dog on their BBQ...it was all investigated by the SPCA for cruelty etc but charges ere dropped. The animal was unwanted by relatives and dumped with them. They didnt want it either so they shot it (killed instantly) and then cooked it on th ebarbie.
