As most of you know Pitties are a banned breed in Qld, however I have seen some lovely pure bred Pit Bulls up here, as well as many crosses. It's just a matter of calling them something else when you register them. Staffy x, Boxer x, whatever takes your fancy really. Despite the law the council here turns a blind eye so long as the dog is registered and well looked after.

Lovely Ridgebacks Nattylou, especially the last girl.

My mother rescued a Ridgeback/Mastiff cross Sarah who was her constant companion until mum died. It was a deliberate cross between two pedigrees to create pig dogs. Sarah looked more Ridgeback, although she was much larger and a bit more solid because of the Mastiff. She had the most superb temperament - would share her dinner with the cat and actually lie down to play with toddlers and small dogs. The only other big dog I've seen lie down to play with littlies was my last Deerhound Weyland.

Thank you to everyone who replied, it helped spark some animated discussions with my family and friends.

It is a very happy ending! I took Bodhi to my local vet and basically said I dont know what he is but I am adopting him and I want to register and microchip him can you please tell me what breed he is, and the vet checked him and weighed him and looked him over every which way and said... Mastiff x Ridgeback.... I guess its open to interpretation but a lot of people have said Ridgeback and at least now he will be "officially" registered.

Great news Bodhi. I really like that name. Sounds Gaelic, Celtic. Nice.

Not only does Bodhi have a fantastic new home but a safe identity as well.
