Default What dog did you want as a kid

    And why?

I wanted a Chow-Chow when I was a little kid. Because they have a blue tongue. I was a weird kid. I also always wanted to go see the buffaloes first at the zoo because of their blue tongue. No idea why that fascinated me. CCs were quite popular in Belgium when I was growing up.

And when I was even younger, when they asked me what kind of dog I wanted, I'd say: "One that looks both ways before he crosses the street" because I once saw a dog by the side of the road do that. I cannot remember now what breed it was, but for years I was convinced that knowing how to safely cross the road was a special trait of this particular breed of dog.

They should create a new breed called "Looks both ways before crossing the street"... bit long though.

I've always loved the large breeds.

The first breed I can remember wanting was a Rottweiler, that was roughly mid-high school (I know this because my high school books are covered in pictures of rotty's).

Then it was a Pit Bull (in college), first one I ever met was my then boyfriends dog, and I thought they were gorgeous.

After that I was pretty keen on Bull Mastiffs (somewhere in the middle I wanted a Saint Bernard), and then I fell in love with Akita's.

Met my first Am. Staff a couple of years ago, and he was beautiful too. And saw my first Am. Bulldog at the local RSPCA shelter. If I didn't already have a male dog, I would have loved to have taken him home (I don't know if he ever made it to the adoption list, the lady said that he might not pass the temperament testing). Except for the Akita, most of the breeds I like are the Bull breeds. A friend of mine put his Am Bull over his Rotty, and the pups actually look very nice.

I wanted a beagle when I was little because I thought Snoopy was awesome, then when I got older, I fell in love with huskies and malamutes because they resembled wolves so much. I had a husky pup for a little while when I was married, but unfortunately we had to surrender him when our marriage broke up. He was a beautiful pooch, and luckily he was adopted very quickly. It broke my heart giving him up.

When I was really little - was pretty happy with the dog we had (lab x bull terrier). When I hit my teens - liked the blue heelers. Nothing much has changed. I like coolies a fair bit too. The short coated fast clever ones. Such personality too.

I specifically wanted 'Petey' from the little rascals. Then I fell in love with Chick from "Next Friday" & then decided I def wanted a Bull Terrier after Babe 2.
After we buy a house I want one from a rescue.

yeah I was obsessed with tigers as a teen, got a tiger tat on my back when I was 19, and also loved wolves and the huskies & malamutes lol. I loved Sully's dog off Dr Quinn Medicine Woman (i suppose he was meant to be a wolf lol)

When I was little, I saw a pantomime of Peter Pan with a newfie called Nana. And I met her back-stage. From that day on I was always going to have a newf.

I finally got my first one in 1980 (well newf x lab) and have always had at least two since. To be owned by a newfie is something very special, they are heart-dogs.

I always had my heart set on a Basenji ... guess coz they were so unusual. It wasn't until about 10 yrs later that i actually saw one in the flesh.
