You are the voice of reason, Kalacreek.

And I had to chuckle at your comment on the ubiquitous brown dog. Because my bitsa - who probably has more breeds in her than I will ever know - looks at least halfway there. And only today I found myself thinking that if she'd ever found herself left to her own devices through some disaster, she would probably do very well for herself indeed.

They showed the oscar's law segment of the project (again) last night. The laws are too vague to be useful at this stage, RSPCA is too under resourced to enforce reliably. Roger Ramvet says he'd like to see a RSPCA stamp of approval like you see on some barn laid eggs.

Debra said she has yet to visit a puppy farm that she considered good for the dogs.
This one has a link to the "7pm project" story - only click if you have a strong stomach
or you think puppy farms and getting your puppy from a pet shop is ok.

I very much doubt you will find anyone here who doesn't want to see puppy farms and pets sold in stores banned, Hya. And I don't need to see the images to believe how bad it is... But it is great that the story is getting media exposure.

I didn't think you were, as you made that actually quite clear. I was just picking up the argument of fashion and money to show that it goes both ways. I wasn't trying to attack you or anything.

I never thought you were "attacking" me personally. You just read a little more into my statement than I intended. Ohhh yes, it definitely goes both ways. All is good. Hugs.

Puggerup, wow. What a bitchy and aggressive comment. All i'm saying is that no matter what my dog is, i love him unconditionally. The person i bought him from has a champion poodle and a golden retriever and they have had two litters. I love my dog no matter what negative people like you say. You should be ashamed of your comment to me. I made a simple comment that i love my dog no matter what traits he has or what breed he is. Should it matter if he is not a pure breed? I hardly think so. He is simply a beautiful, gentle and loving dog and i will defend him till the end of th earth. I didn't buy him wanting or expecting a certain coat, colour, size or to put him on a pretty sparkly leash and walk him into puppy preschool like a toy. I bought him with full knowledge that any mixed breed dog is a gamble, but like i've said, i love him unconditionally.

I joined this forum because i find that dog people are the nices of people. I am very upset and disapointed that i am being attacked because i own a dog that is not a pure bred. That is just rediculous. I am seriously thinking of leaving this forum as it is clear that people can't just listen to others and interact in a respectful manner.

How was asking "what on earth is a groodle?" and aggressive or rude comment? (I assume that's the one you mean as it was the only one directed at you). There is no such thing as a groodle so it was a legitimate question.

Were hip and elbow scores on the Poodle and the Golden Retriever? If the answer is no then I don't feel ashamed about telling someone they made a poor choice. If the answer is yes then fair enough, the breeder was responsible in regards to health.

If you have done your research before buying you have to know that there are people against designer dogs, the same as I know some people are against purebreds and I am prepared for the negative comments about them. Threatening to leave a forum because someone disagrees with your choice of dog is just silliness. Hopefully you stick around.

[QUOTE=puggerup;151580]What a load of rubbish.. love of the breed.. for one it isn't even a breed for another, if she loved the breeds as separate entities, then she wouldn't totally destroy generations of hard work to get champions to breed with and then cross them. Obviously she got unpapered dogs and put them together for the love of money.[/QUOT

this is the bitchy comment hugo was referring to...

This does remind me a little of why I left another Forum, when I mentioned I might get another......."coltriever" Golden Retriever cross Border Collie..........I was hunted down and pm'd. I love Tessa's cross and I do know that there are some people seriously breeding this cross and using them for Search and Rescue, because the cross is better then either pure breed.....I am a lover of purebreeds, I am a defender of pure lines. And to maintain those is so very important.
I abhor people breeding dogs for a fashion statement..........Or to push them out carelessly with only making lots of $$$$'s in mind (just like some pure bred Breeders do and get my dislike for). But I can see no evil in some cross breeds and I can understand their owners defending them and their love for them. Just like my adoration and respect for her intelligence of our Tessa (mongrel or "Coltriever")

The thing that amazes me the most is that if you see pictures of her mix and look them up or even meet a lot of them. they all look very similar......Black, some with white points and silky. Similar to a Flat coat, but very different in temp to those

I have actually met some lovely "Groodles" and have thought they would make a great dog, just like the "labradoodles" I have met. Have been a joy to train. But I have met some horrible ones, which were difficult and unhealthy (HD)...........But I have met a lot of pure-breeds in equal situations.

I think as long as we do not destroy all the pure breed lines, there cannot be that much harm in some of the more ethical cross breeding. It is after all how all pure breeds started. And maybe we will get some amazing cross, that might suit someone's purpose and breed true to type.

I am the owner of an old pure-breed line............If we to check-out how old some Pure-breed lines are. Some are quite recent. Not the hounds, they are old and ancient. But even the "Flat-coated Retriever" and "Golden Retriever" are not that old and quite mixed, I can name a myriad of breeds, that are a series of mixes. And some of the older lines have been "changed" by cross breeding.
I have studied dog genetics, dog behaviour and dog health.........I find it an amazing study. And I have learned to be more open minded about dogs in general since.......

*meh* I have my doubts on the breeders intentions. I don't care if hugo's dog is a cross.. glad you love your dog and all that.. but yeh a Groodle isn't a breed no matter how much of a tanty you chuck.

Oh and if what you say about the breeder's poodle is true and she is putting her champion with another breed, she is a flaming eejit.
