Default Anyone Dealt with a Dodgy Staffy Breeder???

    Hi all,
I know of peoples opinions on Blue Staffies and I agree with some and disagree with others.

Still....I have a blue pup which I paid what I think was a reasonable sum for. I have a 4 year old white girl also and recently lost my 5 year black brindle boy. I purchsed the blue girl because I "like the colour"! Ive also owned a Blue Burmese cat! as I said I like the colour! My other 2 aren't/weren't papered so I thought I would buy a papered bitch to show and possibly breed......bit of a hobby since all the kids have gone.

That isnt the issue, the issue is I have had the miss fortune of dealing with, shall I say, a more than unethical breeder from QLD! This has been a very unplesant experience and one I would like to save any other poor sole from having to go through.

If anyone has had a bad experience with possibly this breeder (I would love to devulge the name but alas "I" would end up in hot water) or others I would love to hear from you! Surely if we band together we can put a stop to "Dodgy" Staffy breeders or at least put a dent in the number!

I wont be breeding with this girl because of the condition she arrived to me in, I believe that would be just as bad as the breeder I dealt with!

Dodgy in what way? There aren't many show breeders who would breed blue staffies as they rarely have black pigment, no black pigment = disqualified from showing so it's not a color most breeders aim for.

Is she papered? As (please correct me if im wrong ) but I thought as 'blues' cant be showed they cant be sold as breeding dogs, or should I say papered breeding dogs.

I believe Andonas kennels is pretty dodgy from what I've heard. No proof of whats a pure or crossbred between amstaffs, staffys and pitties.

Dodgy as in selling a breed quaility dog with a genetic problem that one cannot breed with, and knowing this condition/situation was apparent at the time of selling!

And yes fully papered apparently? im yet to recieve the papers and have been told by the breeder now that I have made Dogs QLD aware of the situation they will opt to register her on restricted papers, which is neither here nor there for me I will be de-sexing her as soon as she is old enough.

i've never dealt with breeders or papered dogs, but doesn't the organisation that provides those papers have some responsibility? I thought that buying from a registered breeder that you were gauranteed to be buying from breeding stock that had been tested for hereditary(sp) diseases? Or am i wrong? Or is it maybe still possible to buy a pup which has a hereditary disease even though it wasn't/didn't show in the parents? I am very interested in this thread as i may well be looking for another staffy in the near future and want to know what to look out for!

ps angel, as long as you post truthfull things, WHICH YOU CAN PROVE(take serious note of the capitals), you can't end up in hot water. But yes, the carefull route is to not name names, but talking about the specifics of the dogs problems i don't see as any issues for you, as long as those specifics don't identify the breeder.

pps i have a google law degree, so please do not rely soly on what i'm saying!!!

This precious girl arrived to me with demodectic mange at 8 weeks old. She is now 16 weeks old and is still being treated. She has improved considerably!

The genic problem lies in a low immune system which she may pass on and also the demodectic mange can reoccure if her immune system is put under strain such as pregnancy, whelping and feeding pups which she would then pass on to them.

I have been in touch with the governing body but they feel this breeder has not breached any code of ethics!!!!!!!!! Thats why Im asking if any one has had any dealings with this breeder, there has to have been other pups from that litter affected by demodectic mange???? Or was my girl the only unfortunate one?????

This is not a revenge thing its more the principle of the matter that has got me all fired up! I would not in all good conscious sell a pup, papered or not to anyone if it had mange! and Im to old to lie down and take it lol

You're not the first person I've read about that paid a stupid amount of money (I think it was 2.5K) for a "blue" Staffy and got a puppy with mange and a poor immune system.

That person ended up returning the puppy. I don't know if she ever got her money back.

But consider putting in a compliant with your local consumer affairs people and the one in QLD and if you paid by credit card - I'd write them and ask for your money back - because you did not get what you paid for. And put in a formal complaint with ANKC.

Unfortunately - just because a breeder is listed with ANKC does not make them responsible or reputable. Or at least they may be reputable - in a bad way. ANKC has a code of ethics and all that but doesn't always enforce it or expell those who breach them.

I've been to the fair trading tribunal, that was an even bigger joke than dogs QLD! She was ordered to pay $500 without accepting liability to basically make me go away!! That doesn't even cover the vet bills oh and of course she denies the mange even existed!

I have photos, vet letters etc but the judge was not interested!! He didn't want to know the ins and outs of the case he just wanted it settled! His exact words to the breeder were "what are you willing to pay to make this go away"!!! He even relied on her as an expert to tell him what my pup is worth!!!! Angry? You betcha!!!!

Ive just been to the link you suggested and sadly I did all the dont's!!! Sometimes its not that easy to have the time to travel and I must admitt this pup was brought with pure emotion after having to put my lovely boy to sleep the weekend before!

Trust no-one seems to be the lesson learnt!
