    Default Dogs and Salt Water

I have heard around the traps that dogs should be washed after a swim at the beach. (that salt irritates their skin)
I have googled the subject and, as always there seem to be varying opinions on this.
I never did this with our dogs in the past but wonder what the members here think?

We give Oskar a rinse every arvo after our beach visits to remove the sand because he is predominantly an inside dog, whether it irritates their skin or not I can't say.

Always use to take ours most weeknights to the beach in Darwin seemed to keep the tick numbers down and they never showed any ill effects from it, but have taken other dogs and they itch like crazy so maybe it just depends on the dogs? or maybe because we took the dogs most nights ...figure as with most things it can be different for every dog.

Salt is very drying, while it is great for washing cuts and abrasions but if it is left on the skin too long it will cause it to become dry and itchy. Best to give a hose off with clean water to remove the salt residue when you get home from the beach.

Salt water makes my skin itchy. Have to have a shower after. Especially my hair.

So I hose the dog off before we go home. I don't like the way dried salt feels on her fur anyway.

I don't know as we only have river water here.
But I have seen dogs at the beach and they are squirting after taking in so much salt water.
And I know for me I would not take my dog to the sea as I am scared of it.

Mine are afraid to go in the water, but they sure do love rolling around on any dead thing they can find in the sand.

Oskar is a big sook, he loves running on the sand, but will not go into the water, might be the movement of the waves lol, not sure.
