    Default Barking Dog

    Hey everyone

Now Axle, my gorgeous cattle dog, will be 3 this year and he is very well trained. Now, whenever he used to bark, we would say "No!" and he would stop. But lately, he will just keep going and going and going, and he won't listen! He has never done this before! It's really weird because he is barking at nothing! I go and have a look, and he is just sitting there, barking! And I say "No, Axle, stop!" and he just keeps going!

Any idea why he is suddenly not listening? It's the first time in 3 years that he hasn't listened! And it's getting very frustrating, especially at 2 o'clock in the morning!

    Hi Ally
Not sure what to suggest...i'm sure others will...but there's probably something around that's really annoying him, something you can't see but he can. My girls will bark at a cat way before i can see where it is.

Hmmm yeah I'm not sure. No one around us has cats though ... it's a tricky one! At 5am this morning, every few minutes he would bark ... then go quiet ... then bark ... got up to see if anything was around and he was just sitting there, looking at me and barking!

Yeah I'm pretty sure our glass doors are at breaking point lol. This morning was funny though, he was looking at me and barking so I said "Shoosh!" and he did a little "Ruff" back at me and that went on for some time before he finally gave up and started attacking Saxons new collar

It could be a possum, mouse, etc. Misi barks at spiders lol. Unless it's attention? maybe he's learnt that everytime he barks you go to him and it's nice company in the middle of the night when it's cold and everyone else is asleep.

    I'll vote possums.

Our local ones have taken to getting in the big pine trees at the back fence about 12 feet up and sitting watching the dogs.

Mine have got over it - but the new Greyhound fosters? They stand there jumping pointlessly up and down barking. Space around them is a new enough thing for them. And space with things crawling around in the trees is just astounding!!

I'm sure the possums are laughing down at them - they don't run away. I think it's their nightly entertainment - "Lets go stir up those stupid creatures again and see how much noise they'll make and how high they'll jump!"

Can you shut him in anywhere? I find that if one of ours is barking at night they stop if I shut them in for a little while, they lose interest I think! If the possums are really going at it I close the garage door when I go to bed and leave all the dogs shut in - and get some sleep!

Great idea! Oh great hang on, all 3 dogs are barking their heads off ...... brb!

Ok I'm back, have no idea what they were barking at, but axle is now in doggy-time-out! I'll keep isolating him when he starts to bark, hopefully he will pick up on it soon that if he barks, he gets puppy time out!
