    Default Home Made DIY Projects.

I make a lot of home made things, biscuits, sprays, coats, beds etc for our dogs and cats, so I thought I would share a few favourite recipes, patterns and links that I use. And hopefully others can add or get some great and even cheap ideas from the thread for some fun projects

    Default Dog Biscuits

I bake home made dog biscuits and all of our dogs love these ones, they work great as training treats cut small or just as a whenever treat. I store them in 2 ltr ice cream containers, 1 batch fills one container.

    Ingredients

    280g wholemeal flour
    1 tablespoon baking powder
    315g unsalted natural peanut butter
    1 cup low fat milk

    Method

Preheat the oven to 190 C. Grease baking trays. Stir together the flour and baking powder and set aside.

In a medium bowl, mix together the peanut butter and milk. Stir in the flour mixture until well blended. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth. Roll out to 1cm thickness and cut into shapes using biscuit cutters. Place 2cm apart on the prepared baking trays.

Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Remove from baking trays to cool on wire racks.

Note: I add in bits of dried liver, dehydrated treat strips etc or roll them out on liver sprinkles, really what ever you want to add that is dog safe you can add, just remember to add more flour or milk to compensate for the extra ingredients you add.

I made a leather couch for our dogs.

Just got some sheets of chipboard and cut them to size, one for the bottom, one for the back and 2 for the sides.
I glued foam to each side leaving a gap for it to be screwed together.
I then used a staple gun to put leather over the foam.
Screwed the whole thing together and then put castors underneath so it could be moved around easily.

Some great dog/cat bed patterns here, I made the no sew one for my cats last year and they loved it, the ties/knots kept them entertained for hours. I will be doing the snuggle bed for Zeke after he has done teething.

    Default Anti Chew Spray

Most dog's taste this once only and it works really well. We fill a 250ml spray bottle with warm water and then add a few heaped tablespoons of citric acid to it and use as a deterrent for chewing. Citric acid is not harmful to pets but it tastes horrible, try it and you will see why your animals won't lick or chew anything that it is sprayed on, don't blame me if your mouth turns inside out and your teeth curl lol, it can be bought in any supermarket (in the baking isle normally), you can also use it to make yummy preservative free home made cordials. I always test spray areas before using just in case it reacts with what it is being sprayed on, have not had a problem yet though.

Love the citric acid recipe, nver thought of using it as a deterrent, I use it with icing sugar to make home-made sherbet for the bottom of marshmallow cups!

I can see this thread keeping me very busy

I figure we can all share our hints on making stuff here, I have been making stuff for our pets for years so I figure others will also have some craft things or recipes that they have as well, like how to make home made jerky, whelping boxes, warming/cooling mats, kennels, travel packs or even what home made concoction to give a "flat" puppy to turn them around
