    Default Emergency Help with Ticks!!!!

We have just given ruby her bath after our camping trip and I have found ticks all over her!!

I thought she just had fleas but on closer inspection they are definitely ticks!

They are only small and I have picked off 15 so far but her brown fur is so hard to see anything.

I really don't know what to do

    I'm crying and terribly scared!!

    Please Help!

What kind of ticks are they? Tick identification table | Primary industries & fisheries | Queensland Government

If it is the paralysis ticks try and remove them asap, the bush and cattle ticks aren't deadly. The vet told me to dab metho on them and it will cause them to draw out.

You can also see if you can get tick wash tomorrow and give her a bath to kill them all (if that stuff exists), or maybe the spot on tick treatments.

If you do think it is the paralysis tick, contact an emergency vet ASAP...

If it is just bush ticks, you can get them off with metho and methodically going all over the dog. Also a wash.......

According to your identification thing they are the bush tick. They are black, quite small. So Do I keep picking them out?

If in doubt take a few of them to a vets and ask them to identify them for you.
But on the removal I don't know as we don't have them here.
    Hope all goes well.

I did just read too that if it is the paralysis ticks not to put metho on them as it could cause them to inject more toxin (not meaning to scare you or anything).

I have picked two off that are still alive and put them in a container to take to the vet tomorrow. They fit all the makings of a bush tick, we stayed at a cattle farm too so I am not 100%.

Are the deadly ticks definitely white>?

We always use a tick puller. And a little bug spray bottle the chemist recommended we'd spray on them first to kill them so they would not inject more toxins when you pull them out. I also found it less creepy to pull them out when they're dead so you don't see those yucky little legs move about.

Our vet once gave my dog a tick bath after I found two paralysis ticks on her. They were also very hard to find on her.

Bush ticks don't sound that serious. But you'd still want to get then off. Though they do normally drop off when they're full. Never heard of that many ticks on a dog! Did she crawl through the bushes?

Yeah its just the white ones you need to watch out for. The cattle ticks aren't anything to be worried about - but still need to come off. You should check the kids and yourselves too in case you have any hiding anywhere!

I've got the tick puller tool things, but I haven't ever used them. when you pull them out make sure you get the heads as well!

We went bush walking once, but it was a path made for the walking so there wasnt too many bushes to walk through.

So I have pulled 18 out now, She is very agitated as I pull out a chunck on fur with it every time.

I check the the whole family and nothing.. Which is why I am a little worried why she has it so Bad!! I just feel sick sleeping while there is these little creepy things sucking the blood of my baby..

God Im a sook I just cant stop crying...
