I think you'll be fine. But it is very sad that people like you are being made to feel like this now...

well hardly as she stated that her dog has been called an APBT before and knowing a lot of rangers in victoria they wouldnt know a pitbull from a dalmation

Kass, do not stress too much, not many would mistake Ruby for a pit, and if they did DNA would prove them wrong, at least you can prove mum has papers and if dad is looking like mum then you are safe, just keep her safe by always having her on lead in public places

Sorry Kass, I should've known that Ruby was your old dog and your dog now is called Nugget.

    What is "the brander"?

Sounds like things are a bit difficult at your place right now, hope it calms down again soon.

And MB's mum is right. You have papers for one parent and a few people who can vow for the mother's breed. You should be fine. And Nugget doesn't sound like a trouble maker.

It would be good if you do manage to save the money to get her registered though. Even if it's only to make sure you never get fined for that.

I think Kass should be worried if she has any dog that looks vaguely like a staffy or is a staffy without papers, because they are being included in this round up. It's evil.

Given that the dog is not registered at all, I'd be trying to keep my head down and dog out of sight and off public property until I could get the rego money together and pay it. As far as I know - you can still register a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, you don't have to bring the dog in, you just fill forms out and pay money. But it might be a good idea to phone first. Do not try to register it as a Staffy cross or Amstaff because those will draw attention. The ANKC name for those cute little bull breed dogs is "Staffordshire Bull Terrier".

They are showing up where dogs have been reported but none are registered and anything that is a cross breed with short hair and musclely build can be declared a restricted breed and confiscated. It is outrageous and I don't know how long it will last since it's one of the most popular type of dog out there and how many dogs can the councils hold while everybody lodges VCAT appeals - yes you can appeal the identification of the dog.

If the dog is not a pedigree, you can ask a vet to write a letter stating that it is a "Staffordshire Bull Terrier". But try to avoid "cross breed" because those are open to a subjective id by a grumpy ranger and they can take the dog.

If anyone comes onto your property to get the dog and they are not a policeman with police id and they don't have a search warrant, they can't go in your house. So if you hear strangers coming up the driveway, put the dog in your bedroom, and lock the windows and don't let them in your house. Like vampires. If you don't invite them in or let them in or open the door, they can't legally come in unless they have the police and a search warrant. If you do let them in - they can take the dog. They can also take the dog from any out building or shed. They can't search your house (without warrant).

    It is seriously stupid law.

It's definitely nuts across the whole of Victoria.

I hope they come to their senses soon.

I have only just read about it and think it's just a matter of time until someone challenges this piece of particular stupid legislation in court. I mean not even the results of DNA tests are undisputed and Victoria wants to determine a cross breed only on their appearance? Ridiculous! And if I get this right it's enough to bring a piece of paper from your vet stating that your dog is another breed or crossbreed?
