Thread: Dog Registration, is It Just a Money Spinner?

  1. #1

Default Dog Registration, is It Just a Money Spinner?

Former Colliope shire council, which has merged with Gladstone regional council here in qld used to have absolutely no registration fees with dog registrations.

pound processing and animal management monies were taken from annual rates as a council service, like rubbish collections, street cleaning, verge management etc.

what exactly do our registration monies pay for? Poop bags in some place that have them? That is a lot of poop bags.

Never really thought about it to be honest. I think a part goes to the administration involved with entering your details into the database and the production and postage of the tags.

I hope the rest goes into the bucket for running the pound and paying the rangers that enforce dog laws, etc. Ours is only $42 for lifelong registration, so I don't really mind.

    $42 for life long registration!

Man we are getting ripped here in Brisbane. I pay $40 per dog for 12 months rego!!! I mean I don't complain I pay it but how come we are paying so much more than other States? I would say because the council wants more $$$'s.

Just a money grabber! One of many that the Government gives you! I remember years ago my dog got out, he was unregistered, he got picked up by the council.

I got a $350 fine for him being out.
I got a $150 fine for him not being registered
I picked him up less then half an hour after he was dropped off at Renbury farm but had to pay them around $50-$60 for boarding and release fees
    then $150 to register him.

All Up it cost me roughly $700 that day!!!

Although I was very greatful to have my dog back, when you are earning $300 a week for a fulltime job and have to support yourself and your pet.

$700 to me was a nightmare!! I had to have friends and family give me church change in the end!

    That's cheap as Beloz!

Logan city council in Brisbane charge $105 per year for an entire dog, $25.00 per year for desexed.

I think it is another rort. They probably buy the tags for $0.05c or less from China, it would take 5-10 minutes to enter the details into a computer (for both of my dogs, so 5 minutes for one).

So so far we have rego costs so we don't get fined. Someone sitting at a keyboard and licking stamps.

Our council is $15 per dog (desexed) and $40 per dog (entire) each year.

    DD's are $300 per year.

I take extra poop bags and stuff them in my pocket at the dog park.
