My problem is the pricing on these "designer dogs". I didnt pay near that much for purebred dogs which i do conformation showing with....

And what exactly makes them a "designer dog" anyway?.....
Like I said, I can throw my cocker in with the shepherd over the back... can I say they are designer puppies because I "designed them myself" and charge that much for them?

Aww how cute is the picture...Id be tempted to get a cavoodle just for the gorgeousness of the babies. They are scrummy.

I am quite vocal about not having issues with x breeding. I dont have an issue with the price either. If that is what people will pay for the dog they want, then on ya.

Reading the tiny amount of information in the article, it looks to me like the breeders might be reasonably responsible. For a start the pup is a month old and won't be ready for another 5 weeks so they aren't just shoving it out the door immediately...IMO, that's a reasonably good sign.

Besides, the dog is a gift (itll be the best gift she ever receives I bet).

I am with the others too, breed doesn't matter when it comes to "getting a dog on a whim"

The price is just determined by the offer and demand principle. Same as with purebred dogs.

I was looking at Cavalier puppies last night and most of the dogs that came up were cavoodles and they were around 1500... more expensive than some of the pure bred Cav puppies...

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

She is getting her puppy from Billabong puppy FACTORY, the delightful Larry and Liz Seears run the place. Please read up on this horrid factory, Debra from Oscars Law rescued dogs from there, one of them in such bad condition that it had to have its eyes removed. Shame on you PM, you have been given so much information on this hell hole and yet you still choose to go ahead with your purchase. It makes my blood boil.

Well, that completely changes things. Wow, you would think that such a high profile person would have done her research properly!

There's a letter you can send to Ms Gillard here: Oscar's law

It is probably too late though...

ETA: And I found this radio interview with Oscar's law's president: http://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/breaking...929-1kyxf.html

Sent the letter, sent plenty of letters. The issue is now starting to get some exposure on tv and radio today, there is still time for her to change her mind. I have no issue with cross breeds/designer breeds, just please, don't buy from puppy factories.

A web site doesn't tell you anything about what the place is really like. There was an article in The Australian about the oodle rage and they visited this place
All it said was that it looked really nice but nowhere did they write that they actually saw the breeding dogs. I would be suspicious of a place that has 50 pups for sale at any given time. They don't mention how many bitches they have. Only that they desex and rehome them when they are 8.

The same article visited another puppy farm nearby. The description made it sound a bit dirty. But their dogs all lived inside with them and they kept their retired bitches as pets.

I'll find the article later. I'm typing on my phone.
