    Default Escape

Banjo got out tonight. I went out for a few hours. Might have been the first time I left her at night since I got her. I left her inside, but with the backdoor open.

Left at 7 and when I pulled up on the driveway at midnight, I noticed the latch of the gate hanging down. When I opened my door, there was Banjo. Very wet - it was raining on and off all night - and her feet were black from mud. But the creepiest thing, she had dragged a couple of large size sneakers over from who knows where. One was in the front yard near the driveway, the other was right at the front door.

I didn't quite know how to react to the dog. So I decided to mostly ingnore her. Though I did have to wipe her legs and dry her a bit before I allowed her onto the bed.

I think in the future I will close the backdoor when I go out at night. I don't go out often, but hopefully she will learn to just sleep when I'm gone.

Locks on the gates and Banjo inside in a crate or outside in a locked yard the shoes would worry me a bit but they are probably from someone's front doorstep lol won't those people get a surprise in the morning.

We just leave our inside when we go or if we think we are going to be over eight hours or so in their Kennel and run.
Sounds like Banjo had a great adventure, but at least she came home

I know. It just seemed creepy to see them and - against all logic as my dog is only knee high and sweet as sugar - expect to find the owner lying somewhere on the front lawn too!

Now I'm preparing for the embarassing task of knocking on all the neighbours' doors to ask if they are missing a pair of sneakers.

And yes newfsie, I was very relieved to find her on the driveway. She could have just taken off, but she hung around. It's a good sign. But I am a tad worried about her having been able to escape once - the latch was lose, I should've fixed it - and trying it again. Though she did look a bit miserable after I got home. Wet, cold and tired and starved of attention to top it off. But I'm not convinced that will have resulted in a negative association with the adventure.

I'm still guessing at why her legs were covered in mud. It couldn't have just been from walking or lying down. They were covered in a thick layer of black mud almost to her elbows. I wonder if she finally took the opportunity to go have a dig in the pile of dark soil that the neighbours' across the road have had there for weeks. She's been eying it off ever since she noticed it.

haha Naughty naughty Banjo! the random shoes are pretty funny though! lol a new toy that Mum won't care if I wreck!

When I go out, Bella goes into her run and Harley gets to stay out... only because Bella is the instigator in their neighborhood adventures though! lol

I actually woke up yesterday to Harley barking and Bella was out ferreting around again :/ naughty girl! Lucky she was only in the front yard waiting for someone to let her inside.

I found two other shoes on the front lawn. Managed to find the owners for all of them and then discovered that Banjoy ripped a few big chunks of foam out of the big leather corner sofa that is on the neighbour's front porch. The couch was very old, but now its just wrecked. Sigh. I offered them compensation once they decide what they're going to do with it.

And I just took Banjo for a long walk and she was unusually naughty. She ignored me completely on a few occasions, which is very unlike her. Mind you, it may have been because I was on the bike instead of walking. I'll start another thread about that.
