Thread: Bum Sniff

Yep Miley used to pull and bark at other dogs, so I clicker trained her. I got her sitting and focused entirely on me as other dogs walked past, then I got her looking at me while we walked past others. Now she can ignore others, but if they come over for a sniff, I let her say hello, as long as the other dog seems friendly. You can normally tell if they are, by the reaction of the owner.

My dog is always friendly but better safe than sorry. Being on a leash is different to playing in the park.

i feel sorry for the worried owners, but feel even more sorry for the dogs, obviously neither party have been socialised very well, just out of curiousity was the other dog being walked on a harness?

No just on a lead and check chain. It was choking itself trying to get to Miley.

really, maybe she doesn't know how to use it properly? I have found that dogs on a harness are harder to control and pull a lot more, only from what i have seen, heard and experienced with one of my dogs! He went straight back on the chain after that walk!

I trained Miley on a check chain and ditched the harness. She pulled and gagged once only.
I think the owner needs to go to a class or something.

Sometimes I get so tempting to ask people if I can spend 5 minutes with their dogs
