Charlie (in my sig) was in that exact situation.

Is grandmother's. Was a real shocker for doing this....Dog would shake and growl while she held it tight on her chest...

Taken a lot of gentle but direct guidance, but now she understands and the dog is better controlled now. Win win situation.

Apparently there is over 10,000 in Victoria. So maybe you could extrapolate that out.

There is absolutely NO way in hell there are that many Pit Bulls (legitimate ones, not eyeballed by the council rangers & deemed that).

The media do NOT have the answers.

Clubspirit: If you insist on spraying the crap that you are, can you at least provide legitimate data to back up your claims that do not come from a media source.... Frankly what you're saying is spiteful, ridiculous tripe that no one will ever take seriously. So back up your claims & prove yourself.

BSL has been proven NOT to work. It's been tried & has failed over at least 6 countries (I think) and those governments have admitted it had NO impact on bites occuring.

The question was "anyone have a rough idea of how many pitbull and pitbull crosses there are in aus?" Of course there is not that many APBT purebreds but why is that mant crosses so incredulous to you? There is about 5 million people in this state.

I never said they did. Do you think I did?

What crap am I spraying? What have I said in this thread that is spiteful or hateful? I really couldn't care less if you take me seriously.

You need to take more notice of your own posts about providing proof for the "facts" in your posts.

I didn't say "there 10k pitbulls and they should all be PTS". You need to get a handle on your hysteria.

We were having such a constructive discussion in this thread about alternatives to BSL which could benefit everyone. But you just skipped all that completely to add some random comment about the number of pitbulls.

I don't know what your agenda is, but can you please try to not hijack posts by responding to old comments. We were having a conversation, which you quite rudely interrupted.

Not sure if we are still discussing BSL....But following on from earlier replies......

Been some great ideas posted here guys and am learning stacks.

So what do you feel needs priority to help reduce attacks?

Here’s my thoughts in a nutshell........

    1. Socialisation (for dog) = Yes

    2. Basic obedience (for dog) = Yes

    3. Obtaining a licence in handling skills to own a dog? = Yes & No
Not fussed on this idea for everyone. Perhaps only for those that have a nuisance dog or other reasons deemed valid for the dog and publics benefit.

    4. Dog awareness education for the general public, especially school age. = Yes

Here you go, it's not the original article I read but it supports my claim.

    http://www.bordermail.com.au/news/local/news/general/pit-bull-crackdown-welcomed/2275826.aspx"

St Albans Dog Attack | Race to toughen laws after fatal dog attack

Pitbull owners stood back from attack on Ayen Chol, claim family | News.com.au

The articles actually say 10000 dangerous dogs, not Pitbulls or crosses. Make of that what you will. IMHO most of those 10.000 will be some sort of bull deriivative but I have nothing to support that view, it's just a feeling from what I've seen around. I'm happy to be shown otherwise.
