Default Carl's First Day at Agility

So after putting it off for months (I'm shy ), I took Carl to his first agility lesson today! I've been meaning to join the local obedience club for ages but it's one of those things it takes forever to get around to.

ANYWAY! He was such a good boy, he went above and beyond my expectations! He breezed over the dog walk like it was grass, cleared all the fences, went through both a normal tunnel and a flat tunnel with the fabric hanging off the end! And to finish it off, he did some awesome sequences incorporating all those things. For a dog who is generally terrified around strange people/situations, he was mostly calm and super responsive! I think getting him out there in the last few months has helped.

To top it off, I let him off lead quickly for him to have a whizz, and he climbed to the top of the A-frame when I wasn't looking! He's a bit of an overachiever!

Sorry, had to have a brag. I'm so proud of my little abuse case!

I bet you are really pleased with Carl doing so well.
And good on ya for getting out there being so shy.
I know what being shy is all about and to beat it is no mean feat.
    Just keep going now.

    Hi Sierra

You will probably find a whole bunch of kindred spirits in the dog sports world. Glad Carl liked it. My dog likes anything up high and then jumping off from half way up and missing the coloured bit they're supposed to "contact" on the way down. So I have to be very careful, not to change direction near the high equipment or she will turn circles on the top of it (eek), and to slow her going down the far side so we get "contact"...

    It is great fun.

That's what I've found already: it's nowhere near as scary as I made it out to be in my head. Everyone was nice and supportive and I'm looking forward to next week.

The dog-walk is one of the more difficult things! It's natural for dogs to want to jump down off things, so combatting it is interesting

Thanks Rid! I'm just proud of him for putting in the effort even though he wasn't 100% comfortable with people he doesn't know being around.
I'm definitely going next Saturday! And possibly to obedience tomorrow morning!
