Thread: Beagle? Help!

quote "We owned a beagle Kobie and we bought him because beagles are Oh so Cute, what we didn't know its that they have some very bad traits.

    Howling
    Barking
    Digging
    Escaping
    Chewing"

Our beagle does none of these things. He is well exercised and has people around a lot. These traits may be a problem if the beagle is bored or lonely. Or it may just be personality..

Maybe you were lucky When we went and spoke to other breeders and they turned us to other owners alot of them said the same thing. Well similar anyway, apparently its common in young males!

I would say its a personality issue. Not EVERY dog of a particular breed will chew things, dig etc, i have 2 of the same breed, same sex, hell even the same colour, but they are VERY different in personality and "bad habits"...

Very true but some breeds have "Common" bad traits! Ie Bulldogs snore like rhino's! They are also very well knows for being stubborn, I didn't really know what that meant till I had one. Yes, you may find some that don't carry these traits but most will!

Every beagle I have ever met has a gorgeous personality and every owner I have spoken to about them have a good laugh about their howling, and tell story's about how many times they have escaped. How many leashed and ropes they have chewed through to escape!

There is an ancient Beagle around the corner from me, I always see him walking about. I finally bumped into the owner and she has had to deal with it his whole life.

A friend of mine was choosing out of a beagle and a husky. I begged him to do more research on a beagle before he brought it. Finally after my constant winging he did, about a month later he came home with a Husky!

I will repeat, yes they are cute as buttons but DO NOT get one unless you are committed to training and you know of the COMMON bad traits because if you are not happy with what could POSSIBLY happen then I wouldn't get one.

I really don't want to rant but the hell we went through with Kobie, the heartache, the stress. The amount of money we were fined for him getting out and the numerous Noise complaints and visits from the rangers. It was just a very terrible lesson to learn for not doing the research properly!

Okay I've taken all this information in, I work a normal day usually 7 hour -ish

I'm not sure i could walk for 9k's a day! I'm fit and healthy and enjoy walking but not im not sure if i could do 9k's every day.

If this isn't the dog for me I'm not sure what is! I want a dog i think is cute and cool and not one that is purely good for house holds etc

    I'm worried! haha

what exercise level are you wanting 2 hours a day or like 2 hours a week ( Like my dog )

What type of training? Basic training or more advanced training?

    What coat long or short?
