    Default What the!?

So i was in my local smelly (yes it actually smells really bad and dirty in there) pets paradise shop tonight. My partner doesn't usually let me in because he says i embarrass him by stating quite loudly to the people around me that the pups looks sick, unhappy, are to young etc. etc...

anyway...i was eaves dropping on the couple who were talking to the shop attendant about the rottyxkelpie puppy they had bought and were holding in their arms, whilst i was pretending to look at dog collars..

The man said "do you know what breeder he (the dog) comes from?

The shop attendant proceeded to say this in a bit of a whisper.."we're not really obliged to state where they come from..but some are reg. breeders, others..puppy farms."

Didn't realise pet shops had come to be so open and honest about this!! Regardless, the couple didn't flinch and proceeded to buy :O

Sounds like a shop attendant with a conscience, the owners would probably be none too happy about him divulging that information.

My OH doesn't let me near the animals in pet stores either for the same reason, or he makes me go in alone and he sits in the car ready to make a fast get away when I proceed to tick of everyone in the store.

Why would you go into one of these shops at all?

I've been very very tempted to make up a flyer and hand it out - outside the shop or surrepticiously sticker it up next to the puppies...

We have no choice here Hyac, not a single pet store where I live is totally animal free.
There is only one that doesn't sell puppies and kittens (they deal in rabbits, guineas, birds and fish) but it also doesn't stock the food I buy.

My curiosity always gets the better of me. I always tell myself not to walk in because i always leave feeling angry...i just can't help myself! We have chains over here like city farmers and better pets and gardens, which is where i will usually browse (most of the time i'll buy online because it's so much cheaper). The staff are quite knowledgeable but they still sell rabbits, guinea's and fish. To be honest i get just as outraged walking into these stores because every store seems to think it's ok to not provide rabbits with any hay! grrr!!!

i just had a look at pets paradise while gettign my kids birthday pressie for tomorrow and all the puppies looked healthy and happy. There pens were clean et cetc.

In fact, I almost could have bought one of the gorgeous tiny chi/foxy mixes. They were absolutely adorable and so bouncy.

I am lucky here.. Have a couple of large pet supply stores nearby who don't sell pets.. ( fish excepted )

I personally don't really have a problem with pet stores in general..i just find the vast majority of staff at pet stores are completely uneducated..that and the fact that everything i find in a pet store i can buy for half the price somewhere else..

I once had a young girl try to tell me the mini lop rabbit in the cage at her store was 6 weeks old. I have a mini lop and at 8 month old, mine is still not as large as the one i saw there.

My local pets paradise is an absolute dive!! A small little store in a major shopping centre that has quite a distinct smell about 2m before you enter. I'm not sure what it is..but it is always very hot in there :S

I completely understand why people dont like them. I dont really have an issue and I always stop to perve at the gorgeous wee babies contained within. I could honestly just take em all home LOL
