There are many ways one can choose a name for their dog.
Like where you want to name your dog after the way they look, that is totally a good idea. Say if the dog is completely brown, you can name them Log or Dirt. Maybe the dog has stripes; you can name the dog Zebra or Stripes. Regardless of what you name your dog, it is all about what you want to name your dog

For that reason I wish I'd called my current dog Tassie because everyone is telling me she looks like a Tasmanian Tiger. But too late now, we already named her Banjo. "That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet"
