Some times it doesnt work though, for eg, sasha is Brightleaf special edition... what was i going to name her? special or edition? lol... on the other hand i could have thought of that with pippa, she is elspan blue bird, birdie could have been cute i guess to go with that.... i like pippa though.

I am really poor at picking pet names so usually someone else names my pets for me.

Chevy (staff/lab female) got her name from the boy I was with when I got her. There were multiple suggestions, one was Nig (ewww but it was a reference to Once were warriors) and Chevy just kinda suited her.

Lennox (staffy/boxer male) got his name because my OH is English and the dog was half boxer so he was named after Lennox Lewis.

Moff (pitty/whippet male) was named after the character Moffet fromt he movie human traffic because we liked the character and the name shortened to Moff we just really liked.

Barney (lab type x breed male) got his after loads and loads of thought...not. The kid kept suggesting things like "blacky" and "cutey" which just werent going to cut it but she was 5. So we told her a fib that he already had a name and we were waiting for the lady to ring us. Anyway, whenever we looked at him he was fat and fluffy and he looked like a bear cub so Barney just seemed to fit. Everyne that meets him says the name is perfect for him.

Pippi (foxy/shih tzu female) is our first Australian dog but as we had not that long been in oz we decided we wanted a name with a NZ flavour, plus it had to suit a small scruffy naughty looking dog. So the OH suggested Tui (after his fave NZ beer) or Pipi (a shellfish that is quite common in NZ, I guess they are here too) and I quite liked the sound of it but thought it was a bit boyish so added an extra p to make it girly and she become Pippi Shortlegs (instead of Pippi longstockings)

We would like a bulldog one day and I want to call it lolly for a girl and frank for a boy LOL. It would be the OHs dog though so he might prefer a different name. I also have the name cricket in mind for another small dog, and also the name podge I love.

I like to get to know the dog first though so usually we take a couple of weeks to give th epet their actual name. Until then they just get called puppy

2 of mine are like that, really can't take pet names from their pedigree ones!

I have a list of pedigree names and pet names written down here, just no puppies to put them with

We originally wanted to get a boy and name him Zacarias, but when we found this girl we fell in love.

We wanted a name that was Spanish and were going through the dictionary, Luna is Spanish for the moon so we thought it would be a nice name
Meet Luna, a 13 month old Beagle pup in Melbourne with her sister Cynder a 13 week old Border Collie!

My first choice ('Jackson') was rejected by my OH. He thought that we would have to constantly explain that he is not named after 'Michael' but 'Peter'. So we ended up with
'Nero' - it means 'black' in Italian. Since he doesn't have a white hair on him my OH thought it's a good choice. Now I have to constantly explain because people would shake their heads and ask me why on earth I named a dog after 'this crazy emperor who burned down Rome'.
    I guess we couldn't win

Bindy - Because I liked it.

Scottie - Because he already had it.

Then there's all the other names I use for them, like hairy legs, s h i t head, little man, madam, chortle and snortle, big bum etc.....

Lila (pronouced Lie-lah, not Lee-lah as people keep calling her) was because my daughter liked Lilacs, so she named the dog lol)

Roxy - Was nicknamed "Rotty" by the previous owner since she was the pup that stood out from the rest of the litter and looked most like her Rotty x father. We wanted something similar, since she already had a "name" but something cute & sweet. Roxy was chosen, at least its easy to get a personalised towel for her from the surf shop! lol. It is a bit troublesome, as the dog next door is called "Rocky", so when I call out to her I really enunciate on the "X".
