All 3 of mine were named when they came.
Prada was from my mums litter, she had 2 she was running on as show dogs, the other one was mine which was Lulu, but unfortunately she went to a pet home so Prada was the keeper, it ties in with her show name, TheDevilWearsPrada.

Brody was because we had a temp dog at home named Cody and when we got a new pup we kept slipping up and calling him Cody so Brody was as close to that as we could get

Cyrus was named by the breeders kids, his sisters name was Miley (later changed to Montana) so there was a theme going there.

My next bitch which I am set on naming myself (!!!) is going to be Arwen.

Kaida's name means 'Little Dragon' in Japanese. Pretty much because I could tell from the get go that she was going to be a little devil and a handful.

7 months on and nothing has changed

Boofy - I wanted to call him Splat (as in the verb to describe jokingly his face...) and my husband didn't like it (the spoil sport). We were driving Boofy home after picking him up from the breeder when I commented that he was such a boofheaded little fellow. It stuck.

Monte - he was already named this. Monte came to me via the original Pug Rescue in Vic. He had been purchased as a pup and developed epilepsy at 18months. His owners, who had also just had a baby, couldn't deal with his condition and their Vet recommended rescue.

Olivia - she too was a rescue and was already named this. She was the 2nd last rescue I took into my home and I decided to keep her. She was taken to the Vet to be euthanased as she had bladder stones and a severe and chronic infection of the bladder and urinary tract. The Vet rang me.

Molly - Molly was mum's puss and she named her that. I have no idea why mum chose that name.

My birds were also already named when they came to me. Pretty boy (who is actually a girl) was my mother's cockatiel. When she died, my brother took Pretty Boy and purchased a friend for her and named her April. About 3 years ago he moved to Germany and asked me if I would take his birds.

My house is filled with animals that I didn't name.

Buckley - took us a good week to think of a name. We just sat down and brainstormed some names and gradually culled names. A few we had in mind were Riley, Hurley, Ollie and a few other ridiculous things. We went with Buckley because we didn't know anyone or any other animal with a name like that. Since naming him, a few people have asked if he's named after Nathan Buckley, some AFL player apparently. Definitely not! I tend to just call him Buckles these days.

Abbie - Was named faith when we got her but changed it to Abbie just because we thought that was a nicer name. Didn't really have any other options, just took a while to work out which way we would spell it. She started responding to her new name the moment we got her so we knew it was the one for her

Millie my rabbit, i really wanted to call her Sooty (used to love the show when i was little and she is white with charcoal coloured markings on her) but my partner hated it so i compromised with Millie. I guess sooty is a bit boyish anyway!

Katy.Because her full name is Planhaven What Katy Did. I chose the name, because as a kid I loved those books and the name katy is a great call name.

Lukey, Because his name is Planhaven Kool Hand Luke......I did not name him. Annabelle's Kennel name is Planhaven Lady Annabella, also not our choice..We call her Annabelle, she refuses to listen to Belle or Anna, which we preferred.
Tessa comes form Contessa. She was a very pretentious puppy and we used to call her Contessa, Tessa stuck

That is the logical thing I would do too - name them in a linked way to their pedigree name. Boofy isn't pedigree, but Olivia and Monte are and neither were given names remotely resembling their 'official' names.

Hauser-Before we got him, there were several petty thefts in our backyard due to the next door being vacant/abandoned. We wanted a dog to be wary of strangers and to watch the house. Also around that time we admired Huff Haus construction. So we named our minis Hauser.
Chookie-His name on the rego paper was Cookie but his temper was nothing but cookie so he became Chookie not yet cookie. I am looking forward to the day I call him "Saint"
I love cooking but I love eating even more.

    Lets see...
Dodge- well my dad has a thing with naming animals after cars and bikes, so when we picked her up, dad said that we should name her after his Dodge ute (much to the rest of the families disagreement) but after a while of dad calling her Dodge it kinda just stuck... lol

Koda- Well when i first found out i was "finally" getting my Aussie pup, i thought i would go with my dream name for an aussie "Splash". But as soon as i saw photos of koda for the first time i knew he was definately not a "splash". I decided to wait until i got him home to name him. On the first day i actually named him Ralph... but it didnt stick very long... eventually i came up with Koda, and it suits him so well!
