Default In Need of a Temp Loving Home

Hi hoping someone out there can help, We live in Melbourne we have 2 beautiful Boxers a boy called Oscar 6yo and a girl Scarlet 5.5yo Rescued about 3,5years ago. Both my parents passed away within months of each other last year, and it was their dying wish that i take the family back to Italy to see the place of my birth and to let the family see the country of their roots, as they have never been out of the country. We have many relations Europe England and America that I promised my folks that i would see, So this will be our Big trip of a lifetime, taking about 12 weeks starting about April 2012. By far the hardest part of granting my parents wishes will be being separated from my 2 beloved Dogs for that large amount of time.
My parents always looked after them when we went on hols, and we were never longer than a week. We hate the idea of kennels and where hoping for any ideas to help place my dogs preferably in a Domestic situation where they will get the attention they love. My Boxers are inside family dogs and well settled and past the super playful stage that all boxers go though when younger, So they would suit a retired couple or a family with older children. Obviously we would cover all costs and pay whoever helped us a fair and reasonable amount for their assistance. Both dogs are great with people and children, the bitch was a rescue dog and early on when we had her off lead she go into a few scraps with other dogs , so since then we have only ever walked them on leash in public.
We would prefer to keep them together, but are realistic and would split them up as a last case scenario.
    Please help with any thoughts

If you were in Sydney I would be able to recomend someone I know personally who does dog boarding in her own home. Her fees are a little above boarding kennels as they are inside with her. Last time I was there I think she had about 11 dogs.

    Default Consider a house sitter

hi there have you considered a housesitter to stay at your house.
Theres lots of lovely people out there grey nomads etc that are travelling in their caravan or mobile home, that would be able to park up at your place, and look after your dogs, take them for walks etc. Collect mail, do lawns.

    Brilliant idea.
There are websites around that cater for this. Friends of mine had a house sitter for the cat while they were on an overseas trip.

A friend of mine got a house sitter though an agency to stay at her place and look after her pets while she was away. It worked really well.

I'd want to try it out on a short trip or something first.

I had two people from my dog training club offer to look after my dog while I was on holidays for a month - and neither of them coped and she ended up at the boarding kennel that had been recommended to me by another friend from the same club. I'd gone and checked that out before I went on holidays and thought it was ok. Frosty loved it. And that's the best recommendation - if your dog is pleased to be there and pleased to see the staff. And they kept her safe. No escaping and trying to run home to find me or annoying the neighbours by barking all night because she didn't know where I was.

I'm not sure a rescue could do much. They need to keep their homes free for fosters.

Housesitting is the best idea I think.

A realist just finishes the damn thing and refills it.

thank you one and all for the suggestions, and sorry i hadn't been able to get on the board but had a few minor medical issues i had to clear up. but all good now. We have a corner block on a busy intersection and we plan to demolish on our return and rebuild so we have let the house run down over the last few years, so maybe our place might not be the most desirable place for minding atm, but i will have to look into it. in the meantime if anyone knows of anyone just yell, thanks
