    Default Moving with Dogs Question

OK, so we have a bit of a dilemma...possibly.

We are moving to Brisbane and we are selling our 4wd. We were going to take my 21 year old laser so we had a car until we picked up the truck (moving ourselves) and so we had a car when we got up there while we looked for a new one.

This way too, if we didnt sell my laser up in Brisbane to say a back packer, it didnt matter as it is worth nothing anyway.

However, now the opportunity has arisen to sell it (a mate has had their car written off and is asking to buy).

My OH is going on about how the dogs can go in the back of the truck with the furniture (in their big wooden crates so physically they would be safe, i.e. nothing will fall on them). We have been arguing about this as obviously it can get hot in there and I dont want them to get over heated.

Now the OH has suggested we can set them up with battery operated fans attached to the front of their crates to ensure they stay cool (obviously they would also have water, and be let out every hour or 2 for a leg stretch and toilet).

I need to know if this set up would work, and if not, some good arguments I can use with the OH so we can arrange transportation a different way.

Why can't they go in the cab of the truck with you?

I wouldn't ever do what your OH is suggesting. It's so dangerous it's not funny. Wooden crates can get crushed by furniture and having your dogs in there is the equivalent of locking them in a car with the windows up in full sun.

All the little fan things will do is move around hot air.

Yea, I have suggested the cab of the truck too.

I am going to go and look at the truck tomorrow so I can gauge size of the cab because there will be me, OH, daughter and dogs (I even need to clarify it has enough seat belts for all 3 of the humans coz if not, we wont be able to sell the car anyway as we will have to drive it up). I have even thought of getting Barney a sedative as he gets a bit excited in the car so I can give him something to chill him out and he can sit on the floor between my legs.

I dont want to put them in the truck but for some reason he thinks its a good idea and he thinks he has the answers to all my arguments. I doubt they can get crushed, we have been moving ourselves for years and know how to pack a truck so nothing moves so I wasnt concerned about that but I am very concerned about the heat.

Will point out the "moving hot air around" argument as thats not something I had previously thought of.

The friend hasnt text back at the moment so hopefully its not even an issue anymore. I might just even take back saying that I would sell, as I would prefer to drive them up in my car.

When we moved a fair bit of stuff shifted around in the back of the truck and we only moved half an hour away.

Have you considered renting a car to drive up there? Some car rental places allow you to rent from one city and drop the car off in another.

I know stuff can shift, but I am almost a professional mover LOL. Apart from the first time I self moved, I have never had anything budge in a truck.

Anyway, that's really not my worry. I am just concerned about the heating aspect.

Nah havent looked at hiring a car. 1. cost (we already stretching it with the move, and we will be slipping back to one income for a while so need to spare money where we can) and 2. Wont be able to have the dogs in it.

Though perhaps we may look at that.

It looks like it might not matter anyway, as friend has not come back and I think I will just say I have changed my mind about selling (someone borrowed their car this morning and wrote it off for them).
