Talking My Dog's Obsession About My Shoes!

My 1.5 years old cavalier king Charles spaniel never fails to grab my outdoor shoes and chew on them when I left her alone in the garden. She took them to her wee kennel and bury them under her mat. I have told her "no" many times but she couldn't stop it. She just loves my shoes too much!

I am not sure why she does that all the time my husband's theory being that she misses us when we are not around so she has to find some of our items to remember us by, but I am not too sure.

I am not complaining but I would very much like to find out why. It is quite amazing that she does this every single time!

Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Yep, Pippi will grab my work shoes all the time. Only my flats though, never my heels.

She likes to chew the back off them.

Its not cause she wants to be close to me though, its because she likes chewing and is a little ratbag LOL.

She will even grab one of my shoes, walk right past me staring me in the eye and then plonk herself down on her bed with it LOL

I to think it might be what your husband has said.
I know with Murphy when we got him he didn't sleep much so the next day I wore my old shoes.
Knowing that that night they would be in his create all night with him.
He slept a lot better that night and it was more pleasing to the wife as she still has got real good hearing, me not that good , so I miss out on a lot of noise and this is one I don't miss.

lol it is very sweet when they do that isn't it. Wawa only does it to my shoes and not my husband's, probably because that's as heavy as she can carry.
Sounds like it's a "feeling safer" issue, maybe I will let her having one of my shoes as a permanent addition to her toy collection.

Really unsure if I would let her have one full time as she will not be able to tell a new from old shoe. Just a thought.

Dont let her chew ANY of your shoes.

If you do, she wont know the difference between a shoe she can chew, and a shoe she cant chew. Before you now it, all your shoes will be in the dog toy box.

I don't leave my shoes that I care about where dog can get them.

She currently is most fond of my ugg boots. She does have one pair of dead sneakers she's allowed to have. She knows the difference because they're the ones I don't take away from her and I do play tug with them.

Although when I get a new pair of ugg boots I'm unlikely to give her the old ones. Well I might attach ropes to them and use as training toys but she won't have open access to them.

I did catch her one day cuddled up asleep with one of my rockports - only the laces had suffered toothy attention. My fault for leaving the wrong door open.
