I don't mind my dog playing bitey-face with other dogs, just as long as she understands it's totally not ok with other humans.

She is selective about which dogs she plays bitey face with. With the smaller ones, she cheats and plays bitey collar.

Unless the owners look unhappy in which case I call her away and give her something else to do - like eat lots of treats.

This is a question I wanted to know about and I thioght what has been put here is good knowledge by people who know more than I do.
Murphy has got a real bad habit o fthis nipping and when you walk away he has the total Heeler thing going as he is nipping your heels as you walk away to.
I have noticed he is by far more nippy with the wife, so I am thinking he has himself as ranking of 2.
He just loves the kids but is way too boistours with them, but this is when they first turn up, then he settles down quickly.
So tomorrow I will start to get this under control.
And it was a handy post to so thank you.

I think the nipping is more like he gets away with it with the wife and its fun for him.

first thing to do is stop walking, then get his attention and get him to do something else. Like sit.
