More news on the original post...

Dog has now been released back to the owners. Apparently the dog has been in and out of the pound 3 times in the past few months because it keeps getting out, but it wasn't until this 3rd time that they decided it was now a pitbull. I think the family just really wanted their dog back so they agreed to change it's registration over to Pitbull and apparently the council were going to take them to court if they kept resisting (not sure why exactly...) .

The problem now seems to be that the DNA test has come in saying it has no pitbull in it, but the council say the test is not definite proof and she will remain to be Pitbull.

It is so irresponsible of them if the dog has gotten out 3 times.

Gld they have the dog back but I sure well hope they stop it from escaping again. Maybe the council decided to declare it a pitbull so they had to build a special enclosed run so the dog would stop getting out. Not that that is the right thing to do but I could see why they may do that if they were sick of the dog getting out.

Depends on how the testing was done to if they will take it into account. Just as an FYI though if you DNA test a purebred APBT you will still not get an answer that says APBT because they are a cross of at least 8 breeds.

My advice to them would be to make sure there dog cannot get out again and to be a bit ore responsible and be thankful they got their dog back. next time a car may get it first.

I think that dog's owners need a dog friendly lawyer. Its amazing how some councils back off when you threaten to sue them over something they can't prove ie that it is a pitbull. If that dog's a pitbull all staffy like dogs are pitbulls and there's no way they'd get away with that one.

Probably all the lawyer would need to do is present this.
Pet Pitbull - Find the Pit Bull

or a similar collection of photos of pedigree other dogs and see how many the ranger can correctly identify.

Things like this really make me sick. It's horrible that government can attempt to extinguish an entire breed with no real reason. Such a great breed too
