    Question Vaccination Records?

Question: When we purchased Abbie, the breeder had misplaced her vaccination certificates. They said they would look, but 3 weeks later, nothing. I called their vet thinking they would keep everything on file, WRONG..vet has records of 'puppy vaccinations' but no idea what was given. Receptionist said she couldn't help...i didn't realise vet's were allowed to do this...would it not be policy to keep a record of exactly what vaccination was given to a dog?? Can't help but think she just couldn't be bothered with me..

Reason i need the certificate is that i want to put Abbie in obedience classes...no vaccination record, no joining the class

    Hmmm strange.
The vet would have a record of what vacc was given as every vacc is priced differently.
So if they don't have record of what it was (ie: c3, c4, c5 etc) they should be able to figure it out from the price charged.

If the vet has record that she WAS vaccinated, just not what specific ones you should still be able to get them to do you up a letter signed by the vet stating she is in fact covered.

I can imagine a Vet vaccinating numerous litters over a period of time not recording specifics. I am not sure of the legalities of a vet doing this though.

I would ring the vet again and simply explain your predicament and ask for a letter stating the details they do know. I would also ask the breeder to sign a stat dec stating the dog is vaccinated and what date and with what they believebthr pup was vaccinated with.

Hmm it's very frustrating! I have tried the breeder again..who say's she is going to look for the records. Not holding my breath to be honest.

The vet i go to always records the batch number of the vaccination and gives a copy to us and keeps one for themselves. I guess maybe because a whole litter was taken in for vaccinations, they didn't bother with records...it just seems really wrong. ringing vet again today!

If all else fails, i'll see if i can get her enrolled without a vacc. record, but then i don't know how strict dog clubs are with this policy. And how will i know when she needs her yearly booster..take a stab at it based on how old she is? :S

Im in a similar position, I need Ruby's to enter her into obedience in like 4 weeks time. Its me that has lost it, which is very annoying as i really wanted to keep all her records! All good thou, apparently as long as you can provide the last one then thats fine. I Hope haha

We had an issue a few years ago regarding the same problem. Our vet was happy to re issue a copy but it had to be me that did it. So your breeder needs to get the copy from the vet and in all honesty I dont see why the vet wouldnt have it on record, its all entered onto the computer .

For the obedience I have known people to get a stat dec done ,outlining the problem and that you will provide the record when you receive them yourself. Failing that the only option is to have it done again through your own vet.
