    Default Opinions Please

Hi all, first of all a quick hello as I am new to this forum.

We recently purchased a pedigree blue staffy for $2000 and it was pretty much love at first site. We had had a deposit on her from the day she was born and picked her up at 8 weeks old. (saturday) upon getting her home which is roughly a 3 hr drive i was playing with her and noticed that her right eye appeared to be smaller and was sort of glazed over. As she wasn't in any pain and didn't seem bothered by it I left it until the monday morning to take her to the vet to get it checked out.2 vets checked her over and told me that she has limited to no vision in the eye and that I should contact the Breeders about it.
So straight away I called the Breeder and told her of the problem and she said that I can return the dog and be refunded or she would give me $500 back. To me it seemed that $1500 was still quite expensive for a dog with one eye even if she is a pedigree. As hard of a choice as it was we decided that I would return the dog. So I started driving and about halfway my phone rang and It was the breeders husband, who quite rudely told me they were not going to be taking the dog back as it would of been one of my children who hurt her eye. I tried to explain to him that the vet had told me it was an old injury as he had taken a few tests and had assured me that it was quite old, however he would not have any part of it. I also told him that one of the photo's in the puppy pack that his wife had done up you could see the damaged eye, to which he claimed it was the light or angle of the photo. I also offered him to get another vets opinion of his choice to which he declined. He then went on to tell me that I am stuck with the dog and there would be no refund.
So I turned around to go back home but stopped in at another vet clinic to get a second opinion, to which the diagnosis was pretty much the same as the first vet.
I have contacted the CCCQ who are investigating it and also the office of fair trading who will be investigating as well.
However the more time the puppy spends with the kids the harder its going to be if the decision comes to the fact we have to give her back in order to get a refund.
So my question is how much would you pay for a purebred blue staffy that only has one eye?
I was thinking $500 is fair but whats everyone else think?
I don't wish to name the breeder incase they are a member of this forum
    Thanks in advance Les

well, i payed $750 for a dog to show with collie eye and not allowed to breed with.
but i just wanted to show.
the pup i fell inlove with, was too good for me cause i couldnt pay $2000.

honestly for $2000, they would have to be perfect.
no problems or anything, i'd get your money back if i was you.
i'd ring the breeder and tell them. and try sort something out, try get money back, and well, if u think $500 is fair, then just offer them $500.

Ok First of all HOLY MOLEY!!

I guess it isnt always the safest option to go for the Registered breeders

I cant comment on how much I would spend but that sounds awefully high! I dont think I have ever heard someone spending that much of a staffy to be honest!

I would deffinately fight this! There will be other people more educated on this subject that will sure comment but i would deffinetly not let this slide!

Goodluck with this and I find this really sad that this has happened!!

I have a $1500 dog here who blew size and couldn't be shown.

This is a tough one... the breeder outright told you she would give you a refund, then she just up and changes her mind.
Then you have the whole issue of breeders of blue staffies being notoriously "dodgy".

I would be inclined to contact a lawyer.

It's a grey area though. Did you sign any contracts on purchasing the puppy? Did the pup come with a health guarantee? Did the breeder provide vet certificates upon purchase?

Crested As a registered breeder do you have to give the pups health checks or is that not a requirement?

thanks for the replies everyone, I was told the pup was vet checked and there was a vet slip in the puppy pack, however upon opening it there is nothing in there just a signature which isnt readable and her microchip number. doesnt even say the name of the vet.
I have emailed the breeder now to get the name of the vet, and a contact number.
We are also waiting for the pups papers to come through, as they were not there when we picked her up. All I have is a copy of the parents pedigree papers
The more I think about it the more dodgy the hole deal seamed

I wouldnt pay $2000 for a one eyed dog especially as I assume they are from top breeders (judging by the price). I'd be a bit worried when she says the papers 'havnt come in' as puppies are registered/papered at birth. Some breeders (such as in my case) will wait until the puppy is sterilized before giving you limited papers but if she is meant to be on the full register you should have got her papers straight away.
I would also contact the Staffy association but as she is blue I'm not sure you'll get much help from that region.
As Crested Love says I would get a lawyer. Or get the Police involved. As long as you signed something. Did you?

I think they can be registered but not as blue as its not a recognised staffy colour and is a fault.

i didnt actually sign anything, what should I have signed? The pups are all meant to be on the main register
