    Default HELP! Pure or Crossbreed??

    Hi!

Name is Rhi and I have a 10 month old mini foxy named Zeus. He was a spontanious buy from a pet store (I know is BAD but i couldnt resist) and they told me he was a pure bred mini foxy - shortcoat (no papers) They even had pictures of his parents which were just that. Although he seems to have turned out a bit different!

Iv been told hes not pure bred - maybe a bit of jack russel in him? and iv searched photos of both these breeds and Zeus doesnt seem to look very much like them ( i think ) -puppy and adult. considering his 'shortcoat' is a very fluffy wirey one! (which he is losing EVERYWHERE)

Iv included some photos from 7 weeks old and to recently and would love some opinions - ( I wasnt even sure exactly what a mini foxy looked like full grown when i bought him he was just so tiny he fit in my hand and i just had to have him LOL and he is spoooooilt rotten!

    Thanks

No, he's a cross bred. It looks pretty obvious to me.

If you wanted a pure bred you should have gone to a registered breeder. As it is, you have a dog of undetermined heritage whom I am sure is lovely anyway.

I would guess he has Maltese in him with that hair.

I reckon cross, proportions just aren't right, plus you were told it was a smooth coat, which it obviously is not.

    But hey who cares???

I'm the proud owner of a "something" - but he's the best dog I've ever had

My guess would be jack russell x maltese x chi

And maybe a few other things.

Nice of the pet shop to lie to you. A dog is not a pure bred unless there are ANKC papers as far as most people are concerned.

I'm fairly sure you've got a cross there, too. My first though was 'Chihuahua'/ JRT. I'm not seeing much mini foxy, lol

But hey, he's cute. And yours. And loved. You might do different next time, but for now.... Why worry?

The trouble today is that over 99% of Australians falsely believe that if a small dog is tan and white it is automatically some sort of Jack Russell Terrier. A Jack russell Terrier is a working terrier with drop ears, strong muzzle and a square outline with dead straight long legs that give it a stilted appearance of a taller animal. The dog in the pictures is definitely a mini foxie cross but it has absolutely no Jack Russell Terrier features what so ever. If you are in doubt to what a Jack Russell Terrier looks like have a look at the Jack Russell Terrier Club of Great Britain website to see the correct type.
