I realise the dogs are being poisoned, but why do they suddenly collapse and convulse like that? I imagine such methods are much cheaper then a bullet, and I would hazard a guess that it's far less torturous then a bullet that misses and gets lodged somewhere else (at least these dogs die FAIRLY quickly- but certainly not quickly enough!).
I know in other parts they club them to death

ANSWER: They skimped on the poison. The poison if swallowed would be very quick,
Provided the maximum dosage for weight was consumed (entire bait)and not vomited up. They did use baits for a while, but children could have picked up a bait, and other animals (not the target group-other animals actually ingested them-therefore it presented a great risk Ammendment
horrifically painful in gross throat to stomach spasm (shocking), but quicker. Loading it up onto darts is slower and not absorbed as rapidly why the deaths are torturous, I would rather be shot and at least be unconcious, if not dead-than ever be poisoned and be in complete convulsions of pain and have my body slowly go through every agony through every organ from the muscular layer to the rest of my anatomy. Many of these dogs are actually pets and not strays.

All unpleasant methods- which of which would I choose if I were the dog, any of those, not the poison that was never intended for dart use-their ignorance again!

The dogs in those videos appeared to die within minutes. It takes a lot longer then that to bleed to death if the shooter has poor aim (and given the previous history of animal treatment in Indonesia, I really don't think they would care too much for where they hit).

Not at all saying that what they're doing is right.

I watched it and feel like vomiting.
It's a very very painful death. It would be sheer hell for them. Some of them don't take minutes to die.. they take much longer.
Surely a strong sedative and something less painful than that drug could be used?

No if it's ingested it takes a couple of hours.
They were shot with a dart so it was faster.
Still bloody painful. That poison is in magic mushrooms and makes me violently ill and make me hallucinate.. I can't imagine being a dog in that position but worse.
It would be painful and terrifying.

oh ok, i thought it was either way, i dont think either way is right, it looks excrutiating for the dogs, one in which was weeing itself whilst the convulsions were going on, i found the whole video and idea completely disturbing....

Strychnine was used to kill the dogs in reference. Curare should not be confused with the very different alkaloids obtained from species of Strychnos (e.g., S. nux-vomica) from Africa, which are used in strychnine, a common rodent poison, which can also be a very quick, deadly poison for humans. Strychnine, like curare, is extremely bitter, but unlike curare, strychnine is a convulsant poison--it increases the reflex excitability of the spinal cord and the medullary centers. Asphyxia is the final cause of death, but the victim first suffers convulsions of all voluntary muscles, twitching, followed by tetanus, violent changes in blood pressure, and spasmodic respiration.

    • Following the ingestion (swallowing) of strychnine, symptoms of poisoning usually appear within 15 to 60 minutes.
    • People exposed to low or moderate doses of strychnine by any route will have the following signs or symptoms:
      • Agitation
      • Apprehension or fear
      • Ability to be easily startled
      • Restlessness
      • Painful muscle spasms possibly leading to fever and to kidney and liver injury
      • Uncontrollable arching of the neck and back
      • Rigid arms and legs
      • Jaw tightness
      • Muscle pain and soreness
      • Difficulty breathing
      • Dark urine
      • Initial consciousness and awareness of symptoms
    • People exposed to high doses of strychnine may have the following signs and symptoms within the first 15 to 30 minutes of exposure:
