It would probably be against the ANKC or Dogs NSW rules too, but I don't see why you can't take your puppies to work, and have people come to your house to actually buy them.

But I think the best thing would be breeding to a waiting list ie you don't breed unless you know you have more than enough suitable homes lined up.

What is a responsible companion animal breeder? - RSPCA Australia knowledgebase

So if you take the puppies to work so you can keep an eye on them, you would add people who like them, to the wait list for the next time ie they'd have a one to two year wait for their puppy. That would really kill off the impulse buyers.

And tho I got my dog from the pound, I was looking - ie visiting the pounds for about 18 months before I fluked on the right puppy.

    ANKC rules state:

    11. A member shall breed primarily for the purpose of improving the quality and / or working ability of the breed in accordance with the breed standard, and not specifically for the pet or commercial market.

    26. A member shall not:

.1 Sell or dispose of a dog to a commercial pet wholesaler or retail pet shop unless they are accredited by the Pet Industry Association of Australia Limited (PIAA).

.2 Allow a dog owned by that member to be given as a prize or donation or to be auctioned.

And at the end of the day they are thoughts atm. As i would be breeding in accordance to laws and regulations, i would have what apporx 1 litter per 2 years???? it was just an idea to have them come in when i do have them, but if i am as successful as I hope to be *wink wink* They should already have homes before my girl (future girl) falls pregers!

oh watch out miss ego is in the house. lol

Technically you are selling the dog to your own shop, so you would need to be accredited.

Otherwise all puppy mills would just have a fake pet shop out the front so they can ANKC register their dogs.

If I owned a pet shop, as a breeder I wouldn't sell my dogs through it. It's more about the sort of people you get wanting dogs from pet shops.
If someone loves a certain breed and is concerned about health and temperament they will seek out a breeder.
If someone just wants a puppy they will go to a pet shop.
If you have a cooling off period (which is a great idea) you will never sell the puppies, they will just go to the next store that has pups in stock.

If you get serious about breeding and showing, it's also not something you want on your reputation.

    Just my opinion.

As someone posted somewhere about them thinking rodents and fish are ok to sell, I agree.
As that person stated they go on the live in similar environments.

With me, the jury is out on whether birds would be sold. As long as cages were big enough, adequate feed (not just seed but grains/veges), water as well as some toys for enrichment as well as knowledgeable staff then I wouldn't have a problem.

I think that that would be in a perfect world though.
