    Default I Want a Job!

Hi guys, some of you may know me, others will not. I am 23 years old and am a stay at home mum of two. I am very excited and eager to re-enter the workforce and I cannot think of anything that I would rather do than work with animals. Unfortunately this seems to be a very popular field and anytime I find something advertised its already been filled. I have around 14 months experience working in a pet shop before I decided to start my family, so this was around 4-5 years ago. I am currently studying retail cert 2 via correspondace, and once this is complete would like to complete an animal care course, whether it be animal attendance or something of the like. I am a dedicated and hard worker. I learn quickly, and am eager to learn new things. I LOVE animals and the animals I have at home, which includes my 2 cats, cocker spaniel and fish, are treated as family.
Please if anyone knows of any positions going, these could nclude kennel hands, pets shop assistants, work in shelters and the like, PLEASE let me know. I live on the central coast of nsw and am willing to travel to sydney or newcastle as required.
    Thanks guys.

In my experience (which is a fair bit as I work in Recruitment) your best option is to get out there one day and stop in at every place you think you might be interested in working and putting in an application/resume. Trust me you will get a different response when in front of someone to when just on the phone.

    Good luck!

Good luck, I have been applying at pet stores since I was 16 years old and still had no love.

Really cheeses you off when these kids are working in there who don't have a clue, yet your applications get ignored.

thats so true... I would rather someone who has at least some experience in the pet industry to be informing potential pet owners about their decisions... annoying. i walk into pet shops and the little kids in their have no idea what they are talking about

kids are cheap, that's all there is to it, and the pet shops are only there to make money.

I find the best positions are not advertised.

Consider going to a store you like and say you want work experience. Most places are happy to have an extra set of hands and if you impress them they might offer you a job. At the very least you are getting some fresh experience and you can put this on your resume.

    Good luck job hunting

Thanks, have just enrolled in a pet care and grooming course, (thoery work to start off with), learning animal behaviour, handling techniques, basic grooming etc. Should get me in the door somewhere after completion. Even if it does I will still be studying further into all aspects of companion animals. I will make my DREAMS COME TRUE! lol

Grooming is a hard job. Enjoyable but sometimes heart breaking.

My mum was a groomer for a few years, some of the dogs that came in, completely matted to the skin made you want to cry.
A lot of people rely only on groomers to brush their dogs, they do nothing in between.

Seeing a little dog racing around the room after it has had a clip and feels so much better is the rewarding part.

Thats why i would love to be involved, knowing that some owners cant be bothered-or arent capable of keeping their dog groomed, it will be nice to know that i can help them and their pet out. After this I would love to do the full blown show dog groomer course on offer. great way to get in on the show action as everyone has pointed out I should get into.
