Thread: Weight Pull / Training

    Default Weight Pull / Training

Is anyone here involved or interested?

We are wanting to start weight pull with our dogs.
I love the sport and think my dogs would also love it.
Having had a look around though there are very few places that actually help with training advice when it comes to our particular climate.

For example,I had a harness on order from the States but an experienced person involved in the sport here in Oz then advised to be carefull of widths/materials as they can sometimes add to overheating worries here .

After not being able to really find enough info on this I thought better safe than sorry and cancelled the harness.

So does anyone have links to Oz harness/equipment sites or pull information?

    Many thanks

    Found it

Have a look at Windchill Dog Gear.

Just had a quick look at the weight pull harness, and they certainly dont look as bulky as the ones in the states.

If i remember rightly, they were very helpfull when i spoke to them as well.

Not to sure if they will have what ya after chop, but worth a shot.

I've thought about it, but never heard of anywhere that does it and dont know nearly enough about it.
Griffen I think would have the strenghth for this kind of sport but has very little motivation.
Not sure if Maddy would be able to do it or not.

Yes we're lucky that we have some comps up here in QLD , mainly thanks to the lovely Husky people though I think.

    And many thanks Nomad!

    Hey there,

Just recieved my harness for Zultan from windchill, as we are starting dog scootering, now have everything to get going with it. Wind chill have all the information on their site and are extremely helpful. Just with my research on dog scootering I have come across helpful sites. I`ll chase them up for you. The one thing is,do it when the temperature is low, start off slowly and once you have your harness have them pull something quite light, we have been using a tyre, to get him used to pulling. Not that that is been hard for Zultan, he is only doing what comes naturally! After all he is a Husky. Have fun!
