Default Uh Oh, We Just Found a Dog We Like!

So I am looking in my local rag and they always have a pet of the week up for adoption.

Well, today I open it up and staring back at me is this gorgeous wee staffy x, 11 years old. Her face reminds me of my old dog Chevy who died last year. She doesnt look like Chevy but she look slike she has the same "wiseness" and "bearing" I gues you'd call it.

Anyway, I show my partner, And he's like "awww I like her, give them a ring and see what shes like with other dogs". We breifly talk about the expensive of taking on an older dog who i likely going to cost a bit due to her senior years and decide that if she gets on with other dogs that we are happy to provide all this care if it means she gets to live out her final years in a home where she will be loved.

I rang the number and they were closed.

I am not sure whether to be pleased about that and let it go or try again tomorrow LOL.

As most of you know, we already have two much loved mutts (Barney and Pippi). We were not considering getting another dog (at least not until we only had one left) but this wee girl just has such a gorgeous face.

I often think that dogs are drawn to you, or you to them, for a reason.

But now I don't know what to do. I would love to give this elderly lady a loving home...but ya know, we hadnt thought about having 3 dogs before. Cost isn't an issue at all. And having 3 dogs isn't an issue really either, they would still all get loads of attention.

Obviously, this would all depend on whether she got on with other dogs, and if she liked us (a condition of adoption is that she meets all family members first)

Not really sure what I am expecting from this, just wanted to blab about it a bit LOL

I guess I will give them a ring in the morning and make some enquiries.

To me there is not much difference between 2 & 3 but for the dogs it has to be the right threesome or it can cause friction.
See if you can gring her home on trial first maybe?????

Yea, that is a good idea.

I agree, not much difference with 2 or 3. We have had 3 in the past...and when I was younger (before I met my OH) we had 4 and sometimes 5 dogs at our flat so the number of dogs isnt the issue.

Pippi does has some fear aggression/reactivity to other dogs but we have been working on that quite a bit recently and she is changing. So I guess she is my main concern. In some ways I think it would be good for her to have a "strange dog" to work with, but in other ays it may nt be and might set her back (although to be honest, I get the feeling that once a dog was here and settled, she would be fine - I pick up a vibe from her).

A trial is a fantastic idea though so will definitely ask them about that when I call them tomorrow.

What is a good length of time for a trial do you reckon?

I am sure of this, and the ideas about a trial with your other dogs is a good one
Hope it all works out for the old dog

I give a 7 day trial with any animal being rehomed so that what I'd ask for. Sometimes it can take a couple of days for trouble to show it's head.

Yea I was thinking it would need to be at least a week.

Weve never trialled before because we are usually of the mind set that they just get on LOL

I think it is wonderful if you give a senior a loving home, good for you to even contemplate it

    Thanks....

We always look at the "pet of the week" but because we arent lookign for another dog we just look but this old girl just really seems to be calling ot us.

It may not happen though, I guess it will depend on the phone call tomorrow....but I will give them a ring and see what they say.

I was talking to my mum before and I said "we are lookign at a dog" and she said all crabby "not a bloody third one and then I said "shes 11 and gorgeous" and my mums attitude completely changed into "aww that will be nice to give an oldy a nic elace for the last few years" LOL

Anyway, I dont know if it will happen, but I will keep anyone who is interested updated. I guess the first one will be tomorrow after I talk to them.

UPDATE? have you spoken to the shelter yet??

I am very keen to see what happens so definitely keep us updated.

I also believe that we are drawn to dogs or vica versa. Phoenix definitely called me when I first saw her, it was love at first sight
