    Smile Doggy Day Care

    Hi everyone!

I am looking into starting my own doggy day care in the city and thought the best place to start was by getting the oppinion of all the people out there who adore their dogs!

If you have any time, could you please answer the following questions, any info would be greatly appreciated.

How much would you be willing to pay for a day at Doggy day care?
How many days per week would you put your dog into day care?
What are the main reasons for putting your dog in day care?
What determines the day care you choose to put your pup in?
What are your expectations of a doggy day care?
What optional extras would you like to see at a day care?

Again, any comments would be wonderful, thank you all so much!

    have a lovely day

How much would you be willing to pay for a day at Doggy day care?
I suppose it would end up being about $15.00-$20.00 per day

How many days per week would you put your dog into day care?
It would depend, If I had a lone dog and i worked 5 days per week, every day.
But not with my three to foursome, they have their own parties and Hubby works from home

What are the main reasons for putting your dog in day care?
    Loneliness and socialisation

What determines the day care you choose to put your pup in?
It would have to be clean, friendly and I would like to have people there who have some basic dog behaviour knowledge. Also dog health and first aid knowledge. That the other dogs would be either titred or vaccinated and plenty of room to play and some fun environments. Dog savvy people to be there to keep control.......
I would like my dogs to socialise, but in groups that are suitable. Mine are huge, but very social. but I would rather they be with other friendly dogs

What are your expectations of a doggy day care?
If I drove into the drive way, I would expect my dog to be exited and want to be there and be happy to see the carers......That would make me happy as an owner.

What optional extras would you like to see at a day care?
Be great if the did grooming/bathing and were able to keep dogs overnight if necessary. Dogs would already know the place and be less stressed. Compared to going to a strange Kennel. And they would have their usual daytime friends.......That would be perfect

How much would you be willing to pay for a day at Doggy day care?
Ooh free market research. Hmm. $15 to $20 depending, I think my O'night boarding kennel is around $25 to $30 and the vet is $20 but the vet is not a very "enriching environment".

How many days per week would you put your dog into day care?
Occasionally if I had something on and was going to be out all day, I'd consider it.

What are the main reasons for putting your dog in day care?
I'm going to be out all day...

What determines the day care you choose to put your pup in?
Location, easy of parking and opening hours. If I need to go work on site or have a morning scuba dive, I'd need to drop the dog off around 7am ish... and pick up between 4pm and 6pm ish. If I could only drop off and pick up between 9am and 5pm it wouldn't be useful.

What are your expectations of a doggy day care?
That my dog would be safe and well cared for. Have opportunity for socialising with like minded dogs, and opportunity for sleeping too. And that I would be able to inspect the facilities while dogs were in there any time - to see that what is promised is what is delivered. I imagine one way glass into an area would help facilitate this without distracting the dogs, but also can't imagine why the occasional doggy owner couldn't tour the facility.

What optional extras would you like to see at a day care?
Can't think of any. I wouldn't be interested in extra dog training or agility stuff, in fact I would not like that at all. Would potentially stuff up my own training.

I would expect dog to have sleep time in my dog crate that she is familiar with, not left tied up anywhere - like I've seen some doggy day care do.

I agree the Parking and the hours of being able to pick up and drop off and i agree I would not like other people to train my dogs, I just like interesting places, not just concrete flooring.

Up to $20 a day for the right place.

How many days per week would you put your dog into day care?
Once or twice, unless something extraordinary was happening at home (e.g. fences down etc).

What are the main reasons for putting your dog in day care?
Socialisation with other people, keeping the dog entertained when I'm not home.

What determines the day care you choose to put your pup in?
Their knowledge on dogs and dog-dog interaction. Places with appealing facilities.

What are your expectations of a doggy day care?
I expect that they have the means to separate all dogs if needed.

    Not sure.

I would not be a weekly user but if there was a local DDC I would use it more if it had good extras & for my youngsters occasionly when I have a time comesuming rehad case or simalar. My friends & family would use them when they work though if there was 1.
How much would you be willing to pay for a day at Doggy day care?

It would depend on what you had to offer & dog to worker ratio but say anywhere from $20 for straight minding to $100 for some grooming or hydro phyiso & maybe trainer would interest others.

How many days per week would you put your dog into day care?

I would only use it say 6 or so times a year but I know of many others that would use it as much as 5 days wk & alot that would average approx 3 days wk.

What are the main reasons for putting your dog in day care?

I would use it for extra busy times & if it had grooming I'd take avantage of it more.

What determines the day care you choose to put your pup in?

The general feel for the place when I visited & that dogs did not look too anixous. Clean, enough staff for number of dogs & that the premisis was suitable to keep dogs safe. Cost would be a lot further down the list for me.

What are your expectations of a doggy day care?

That would depend on what the particular centre said they offered but mainly that my dog would get enough 1 on 1 attention & would be safe(from fights, escaping, swallowing bad things etc) & happy to be droped off.

What optional extras would you like to see at a day care?

[COLOR="purple"]Hydro therepy & exercise, grooming & maybe training as long as they had a decent trainer.[COLOR="purple"]

Again, any comments would be wonderful, thank you all so much!

I think well run DDC Centre would be an asset to own but a lot of work, lol. I think even in rural areas there is enough devoted pet owners that it would even be profitable somewhere like Tamworth or other reginal centre. Good luck.

Personally, if I lived in a flat, worked 5 days a week I would not have a dog, a cat would be better suited to that.
If I had a house with a yard, worked 5 days a week I would prefer to have 2 dogs so they had company.

I wouldn't use doggy day care really but if I did, my needs would be the same as others have posted.

Going from my own situation, on a farm, 3 dogs, I possibly would use it if I went to town, had to take a dog with me as it had to go to the vet to be checked for something minor and I had many errands to run as well I would consider using it instead of having the dog with me for hours in the car or in a cage at the vet's waiting for me to be done. In my case I am an hour away from a large center and my vet offers this service to the out of towners if he has the room.

I would prefer doggy day care to that.

Any posts made under the name of Di_dee1 one can be used by anyone as I do not give a rats.

Even if I did work 5 days a week fulltime, I would be exercising my dogs before and after work as I do already, and providing them with entertainment while I am gone anyway, so I doubt I would use doggy day care. I have a dog who cannot be handled by your average joe and the other dogs keep each other company just fine.

    But if I were to...

How much would you be willing to pay for a day at Doggy day care? $20/30 a day.
How many days per week would you put your dog into day care? Perhaps 2.
What are the main reasons for putting your dog in day care? Socialisation, a chance of blow off excess steam (probably only for a super high energy dog), exposure to different dogs and people, stimulation.
What determines the day care you choose to put your pup in? Quality of the handlers. I would not want any of my dogs being handled by someone who had no clue what they were doing. Same goes for groomers, trainers and vets. Carl would likely take a hand off...
What are your expectations of a doggy day care? That it is a clean, hygienic environment where my dog will not be in an overcrowded pen, or locked up all day with only an hour of exercise. I would want the dogs coming home exhausted and happy, and with no signs of physical harm from fights or play. I'd also want a detailed account of what exactly my dog did during the day and for how long, and maybe also some pictures of video (sue me, I'm a sceptic!).
What optional extras would you like to see at a day care? Free brushing/washing/clipping nails, enrichment such as clicker training or scent hunts, perhaps lure coursing. More exercises for dogs dependent on their breed and what they are bred to do.

like a rolling thunder chasing the wind...
