Default Good Dog Friendly Beaches in Melbourne

    hey,

I was recently trying to find a great dog friendly beach in Melbourne where I could take my two dogs and let them off the leash and enjoy the surf. I did some research and came up with the 10 that I have gotten posted on a site. I was wondering if you can think of any that I have missed, or if you have been to one of these beaches and they are no good please let me know. I would love your feedback, you can send me a comment on the site or leave a comment in the forum.
    Thanks for your time!

St.Kilda is off leash part of the year, near where the Spirit of Tasmania docks. Whenever you go there are dogs offlead though, no one really sticks to the rules.

Pretty sure you'll find an area at Werribee south as well.

I stay at Carrum Downs Caravan Park when we are in or near Melbourne with our dogs ( great off leash next door) and Carrum beach (Seaford) is dog friendly. Some time restrictions in Summer time, but fabulous anyway

In Adelaide, most all of our beaches are dog friendly before 10am and after 8pm during daylight savings / summer. And all day during winter / standard time. I think the exception might be Glenelg (where the jetty is) which might be either no dogs or dogs always on lead. Anyway - not much fun for a dog. And there's often a lot of rubbish there anyway.

So my fave beaches for dog are South Brighton, West Beach, and Sempaphore / Largs, and perhaps Tennyson beach - because there is always some sand there, even at high tide. Some of the other beaches eg Somerton, North Glenelg etc are completely underwater at high tide so there is water and rocks and nothing to walk on.

Was at West Beach near the surf club this morning... Fantastic. And strangely - hardly any people, let alone dogs.

There is an all day dogs off lead beach at Osullivans beach - enter near the boat ramp, but they cut that in half last year to do something to do with storm water or sewerage and it's been too small and crowded and crap - in my opinion since then.

There are a lot of other beaches further south but letting dogs off lead can interfere with sand piper nesting sites - if the sand piper is frightened off the nest (in the open at high tide level) by a dog, the chicks die.

When Rosie was still a ababy doglet, we took her to the beach near Station Pier, and no one follows the 'on leash' rules, so we didn't stay long, as they all wanted a piece of her, and she didn't want to know them.

The waves also freaked her right out! I'll try and find a picture to post up - we were laughing os hard at her boouncing at the waves that it was difficult to snap any shots!

Couldn't find her actually ON the beach, but here she is on the foreshore, looking worried about those wascally waves advancing to her!
