I feed him sometimes, sometimes the kids feed him....sometimes he has to catch and kill his own joking

He found a hang toy once.....a pair of expensive pants I wanted to KILL him...but, it's the whole puppy dog eyes thing....so I walked away from him, then later went out when I was calm, and 'spoke' to him....

I had a pair of JR's before my Bullmastiff.....they constantly got out, and for their own safety, I surrendered them back to the breeder (Jocelyn Candsell RIP)

I'll have to post some photos of him...I have one of him with his head stuck in a chip packet....it blew off the table when we were BBQing...and he got straight into it

LOL. My mum makes us catch and kill sometimes. :P

I'm sure he luurved those pants. I know it made you feel better talking to him, but can guarantee he was going, 'Um, what? Can I lick you now?!?' Dogs don't remember. It's better to reprimand the behaviour when you catch him doing it. Roxie chewed my shoes once and I chased her around the backyard with it for a good ten minutes screaming at her. It didn't help, because she chewed the next pair. She doesn't know what shoes are or what 'You are so goddamn naughty you hairy little beast' is either.

Some photo's would be great! He sounds like quite a character already and you sound very fond of him. You can train him up to be a great dog, don't doubt yourself for one second.

It's the same place as the guarddogtraining place.

RUN if you care at all about your dog RUN AWAY

I don't know why we're upping these bastards link and hit quota. It just gets them higher up in the google search ranking. (eg remove the links to the website).

PS if you want some help training - short bursts are fine - just work on one thing at a time. I'd also be looking to incorporate NILIF - nothing in life is free, and triangle of temptation - eg make him work for his dinner by sitting and staying nicely and then you can "generalise" that to other places like greeting guests, or going to work.

I have respect for Steve Courtney as a dog trainer - but he would want to train the owner first - it is - in my opinion - pointless to send a dog away for training without training the owner just as much. Even the guide dog people train the blind guy too. Read the training articles on this site and his site...

Oh and I'd add crate training to the list. If your hound will stay in a crate, then you can take him anywhere.

I think more exercise everyday for a start will make a world of difference.
He seems to be bored and looking for attention...

If you don't see the dog do the deed and correct it right then eg within 30 seconds but ideally within 3 seconds - there's no point. There is zero point having a talk to him later after you've calmed down.

The best thing is to make sure he can't get at your pants and has something else to chew. I do find a waterpistol with a long range is good for the immediate cease and desist distraction factor.

I talk to mine if they have done wrong after I have calmed down. They look at me, smooge and have absolutely no idea what I am talking about and if anyone saw me they would think I was a loony. No, you can not have cuddles until I have finished my lecture. Wagging tails will not make it go any faster.
Made me feel better though, lol.
The last time was when two ran off for 5 hours and after I had resisted the urge to strangle them when I knew they were safe.
