I had this problem also with my border collie solved it almost completely by buying a large beach ball , now shes occupied trying to bite it but its too big ,when we are not at home for hours she forgets about the digging of holes.

And there you have a whole prevention system..... a designated place to dig.... they love it and because the sand stays extra cool from the roof, they love it even more and with the sand being easier to dig they prefer to dig there

Also standing on the kennel to watch what is going on suggests not enough visual simulation, is she in a backyard with high fences or something so she can't see whats going on around her? Maybe try building a sandpit for her with a roof that she can climb up on to see what is going around her and also more walking (physical exercise and also mental, sights, smells and meeting different people) would definitely help.

My border collie is nearly 7mnths and was doing it too but what I did was collect the doggy poo and put a bit in each hole and now she only digs a hole once week instead of multiple holes all week so if I persist doing that wont be long and she wont dig any more , they seem to hate to dig where there own doggy poo is, give it a try it cant hurt and it may solve or ease your problem.

i've been doing the doggy poo in the holes and that works a treat!! I'm going to get a sandpit for her so she can dig in it to, maybe even hide a few toys in there that she already knows the smell of to give her some incentive to start digging in there.
    Thanks for all your suggestions!!!

This thread is actually making me wish my dogs dug, so I could make all these special things for them! Helmut the greyhound probably wouldn't notice any designated digging areas, or might lazily look at them occasionally, from the comfort of his bed.
