    Default Dog Breed - Answers!!!!

I was just telling a friend about Roxie in the car and how she looks so much like a whippet when she stands and sticks her head out.

So I googled again, another attempt to find a dog that looked like her. I've found one that could be her brother. It's incredible. He's listed as a terrier x whippet which was my closest guess for Rox, but I think this is good enough proof!

I've included some photos of them both. Try and figure out who is who!!

Look alike does not mean related or same breeding.

Just work with what you have, guessing can be fun but don't make assumptions.

Personally I think minature pinschers and manchester terriers look very alike but they were bred for different purpose and have different ancestries.

And don't get me started on how often I muddle up BCs, Aussie Shepherds, and even Nova Scotia Tolling Retrievers (or Tollers). And I have trouble with Old English Sheepdogs and Beardies (Collies?).

At least I know to ask first not to assume I know what kind of dog I'm looking at.

Crazydog, Kelpie has been thrown around because of her jumping ability. She could have it somewhere.

Hyacinth, based on what I know about both breeds I'm happy enough to assume that she is that cross. I don't use her for working or showing, so it's not really that important, just a bit of fun and insight to her breed. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for a test.

Roxie was a rescue so we will never truly know what she is. I don't think either of her parents would have been pure, she could have a few other things thrown in but judging on her characteristics and shape she is definitely part whippet. She has the run too and incredible stamina. I've said from day one she's Whippet, she even has the heart defect to go with it (and mine!). The terrier part is a little sketchy. Some have even mentioned a bit of Pom in there.

Oh, and when I said 'could be her brother', I didn't mean her ACTUAL brother. That dog was a rescue from America and Roxie definitely speaks Australian I just meant they're similar looking, kind of like Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel. It's all just a bit of light hearted fun. Regardless of the breed, they're nearly a mirror image!

    Happy New Year everyone!

It so fun to have a guess or two about the breeding I reckon.

We have a large black dog who we assume is a lab x. As we got him from the SPCA an dhe was picked up as a stray (at 9 weeks old, ridiculous. He was so cute and chubby I dont know why his owners didnt claim him) prior to arriving at the SPCA. Therefore we truly have no idea what he is.

We have had guesses from heaps of people which always have lab (I guess this guess is made because he is black and looks a bit labby - though fact is he may not have any lab in him at all) crossed with any of the following; mastiff, rottie, staff, pitbull and even newfie (he is not hairy enough for that though lol).

We really dont know and will never know but I like to go looking on the internet sometimes too and I did find a dog who could have been his twin (a lab/rottie mix, also from america lol). Same build, same face, same white patch. In fact, when I saw the first pic, I actually thought I was looking at a pic of my dog LOL

    Its fun I reckon.

Things I muddle up with whippets - italian greyhounds.

    Jucelala

We play the guessing game a lot with my dog because she also came from the pound (AWL). Cattle dog is an obvious start though other dogs have the same ticking colour characteristics eg German Short Haired Pointers, Some spaniels, English pointers...

But she behaves like a farm dog bitsa.

I took you a bit literally when you said "good enough proof" in your first post.

Other guesses for my dog include staffy x because she has "the groove" in her head (as do ACD), and because she does commando crawling with frog legs (as do heaps of other dogs even saw a GR pup copy her the other night). And I frequently call her dalmation x when she's being particularily dopey.

I have seen an ACD x Dalmation - where the owner knew both parents - exact cattle dog shape and coat texture, with dalmation spots painted on top. A very strange look.
