The term " staffie" stems from the word " staffordshire" in the breeds name and that very same word appears in the American Staffordshires name also so im interested to know why you think one is a staffie and one isnt

and they both have big grins
I guess it is just my association. I haven't had much to do with amstaffs down here - mostly staffys and pitbulls. Since I know staffys as staffys and amstaffs are a different breed I don't the name as referring to both.

Its like sheppie - I wouldnt recognise if someone called their belgian shepherd called their's a sheppie cause I am used to GSDs being sheppies - though both are called shepherd.

    Make any sense?

    Hi Magdalena

You are a fantastic dog owner! and Plleeaassseee dont leave

Forget the stupid dynamics, esspecially in the way you may write posts. Personally i enjoy your posts and it is clear some (or one) have no idea of what it is like to live in pain.

Occy you should be ashamed. I know i would be. It is so very easy to sit back and critisise others via the internet!. Even when they have explained their situation, some are hell bent on surmising and disrespecting personal views and situations.

Mag's some times you need to suffer fools in this world! and you are definately able to rise above them easily and without question.

Chin up babe everything will be ok...the good always far outways the bad honey

Billy, how exactly have I "criticised" anyone? I simply stated in the first post i wrote that typing in caps is considered shouting. Not only this but I have apologised for any grief caused. I don't see you shouting down sheltiefan for doing the same - nor should you. But it seems that some people have decided to try and take me down a peg for something I can't exactly understand. Fine - she is in pain (once again you assume things about me Billy).

Please keep this thread on topic from here on in. If you wish to complain about me, do it through the correct channels or perhaps, if you have the maturity, take it up with me and explain to me exactly what you feel I did wrong.

I am trying to stay on topic here with people who are interested in discussing the issue. YOU and a couple of others appear to want to bring it back to the second post made - which was made innocently enough and was only about nettiquete.

I am asking again that you take problems with me up personally - I am a reasonable person - I am not going to be threatened by any bullying tactics. I thought I was doing the right thing, obviously I wasn't. LIVE AND LEARN. I am certainly doing that, but since some people are already perfect I guess they have the right to cast stones.

I've apologised - I will not "leave" because you bully me - what is it you want next - a pound of flesh?

I ask again that we return to the topic - when is a staffy a staffy? and is a staffy ever a staffy?

ETA: I will not responding to any more abusive posts, they will simply be reported and removed. You are the ones saying you want this to be a lovely happy place, so start acting like it. I am willing to leave this behind - are you?

    Thank you !!! so much!
I agree "sometimes you suffer fools in this world" and there's enough in everyday life but when you get online to chat to dog lovers you expect a bit more....it's meant to be an escape, fun, informative etc
    Thanks again Nic ! x

    aaawww poo

Thought I'd cruise through whilst downloading some songs for the kidlet and OH , thinking this would be well back on track or just *poof*

    Seriously, this has to stop.
Occy has offered her explanation and an apology for why she may have been taken the wrong way and still it continues.
See this is what I am trying to get across to people.

Things are being taken personal like...and it shouldn't be.
It is merely adults having discussions on some things that we are never in the wide blue yonder going to agree on.

Now credit where credit is due.
Occy has said lets just move on , she still has an interest in learning why these terms can be considered incorrect to some of us .

So lets do just that, discuss the original question.
I have already tried to explain why I dislike the term.

Now we have further questions being asked.
Why can we all not still discuss this like adults?
Why can this still not be nice?

    And nope!
This aint about giving favours to one and not the other.

    Quite the contrary in fact.

You have asked to have pleasant ,adult discussions regarding dogs.
    Lets do that

Ok, I have just read this thread all the way through and I'm a bit confused on a few points.

Firstly, how does posting in capitals have anything to do with arthritis? I don't see how bigger letters on a computer screen is going to hurt your fingers to type any less than small letters? If your eye sight was bad, even then you can just enlarge the text. No offense meant, its a honest question. If you don't feel like answering then fine, but its hardly right to have a go at someone for asking a question.

Second, when did Occy say anything that is offensive or that she should be "ashamed" off. She has her own opinion obviously, maybe you should reply in a calm and polite manner as she has done, instead of jumping up and down screaming "Witch! Witch!"

Thirdly, in my opinion a ASBT is a completely different breed to a SBT. So calling it a "Staffy" sounds wrong to me as well. I wouldn't call a Shetland Sheepdog a Collie, even though it looks like a miniature Rough Collie.

And last, I have heard of some breeders being angry about their dogs being called Staffys, I have no idea why. Hopefully some of them will reply!

Edit: Choppa beat me to it! Lets continue with the actual discussion!
