    Question Question

    Hi everyone

I've come across two breeders and both of them de sex their pups before giving them to their new owners.

    Why do breeders do this?
Is it to stop people breeding their lines? Both of these breeders claimed to have really good bloodlines.

I find this to be selfish. Am I wrong for thinking that?

If they do it to stop people breeding then why are they breeding dogs in the first place?

Just curious. Not an attack on anyone.

We desexed puppies because unless they are going to a breeding showing home there is no reason to keep them entire. No matter how good the lines are you always get pet puppies and pet puppies do not need to be able to reproduce.

Breeding, Showing, Training and general crazy making!!!

Also depends if it's a small breed.
    Some do.
Are they registered ANKC breeders? If they are these breeders are required to conform to a code of ethics. They will come with papers to prove their parentage of the same breed and that all health tests have been carried out. They put a lot of work into their breeding program.
And yes it's to stop people breeding.
If you are interested in breeding then you can discuss that with them and they can mentor you through the process.

Yes I understand and support that!

But these breeders de sex them regardless if you want it for a pet or to show.

Owell, their choice if they want their lines bred or not. I was just curious.

PS- Not interested in breeding!! I don't own a dog. Still researching breeds

    Cheers

Some breeders are very protective of their lines.
    Some will do that.
Only a few areas hold classes for desexed animals.
Those breeders who desex anything they do not keep are usually breeding for their own needs and sometimes for a select few. They desex the other dogs so that they are the only ones with those lines so they can control who uses them.

They can't desex them whether you want pet or show. You must be confused.

You cannot show a desexed dog so they cannot be selling dogs on main register that have already been fixed.

PETS (limited register) and sold desexed or on a desexing contract for many reasons. Yes, they want to protect their lines in some cases, but it also prevents people from breeding their dog from a reputable kennel to "muffy" the little mixed breed down the road.
Unless it's a show dog and of show quality it should not be bred from, therefor, desexed.
Some kennels have a reputation for high quality dogs, and they don't really want that reputation tarnished by some idiot breeding willy-nilly.
