Thread: How Do You???

    Default How Do You???

Often when members come here looking for dogs of specific breeds or crossbreeds our long term members are quick to advocate for rescuing a dog and often give members links to the types of dogs they are looking for that are in pounds etc.

I'm wondering how you find those links? Is it a simple Google search? Is there another site that helps?

Type "<insert breed here> Rescue" into google im sure you'll get something..

Make sure you search "pages from Australia"

    Try here amy:
PetRescue - find your new best friend!

ETA - you can't search by breed but if you browse close to your area you might find what you're looking for

I've found you can actually do a site search of petrescue using google.

That's how I found the border x lab in Victoria.

Petrescue themselves don't want people to be breedist so they don't allow breed specific searches - which I think is stupid. Ie some dogs are more high energy than others. They should at least have energy level as a search criteria if they don't have breed. I think if they don't allow a more refined search - then people will get overwhelmed with 50 pages of dogs to check in their area.

Yeh, I agree Hy! I think being able to search for a breed, or even a breed X would help a lot! I figured out that RSPCA shows their dogs in alphabetical order of breed names so "Australian Cattle Dog" then "Beagles" etc.

So how do I use google to search pet rescue? What do I type in?

    Pretty much.
When I was looking for a BC I just googled BC rescue Australia.
And looked through the pound pages and rescues until I found one that fit me

Breeding, Showing, Training and general crazy making!!!
If you seek understanding listen to the music, not the song.

There's also Rescue Rex for NSW which lists dogs available for various pounds, and breed specific rescue details:

    Rescue Rex - Home

The rescue section on DOL can be useful too.

border collie labrador victoria +2010 site : petrescue.com.au

note - don't put spaces around the :
put that into google search. If you want to exclude a term put a - in front of it. If you want it to only list this year put +2010

    etc.
