Thread: Rescue Dog!

    Default Rescue Dog!

OH and I have been thinking for sometime about rescuing a dog.

We want another one and would LOVE another Cav but my heart breaks to see all the dogs sitting and waiting on rescue websites and in pounds so we have been keeping an eye out.

We have come across a 1 year old golden Cocker Spaniel (close to a Cav!) who is in foster care nearby.

There is also a 6 year old girl with another rescue group.

Submitted an application tonight for the boy so will wait and see.

we have taken 2 rescues this yr.
The first sadly was PTS after behaviourist etc intervention, we just could not sort out the multiple aggression issues, and the rescue people would not rehome. I had fallen in love heavily and had him PTS in my lap- complete heartbreak.

the second is sitting by my foot right now- not perfect (but who is) however he is slowely entering our hearts.

IMO- its the personality of the dog that matter over breed. Of course each breed has its specific traits, however the animals personality and how it fits in with your family that matters more than breed.

Would I do it again?? I am not sure. I would like to pick the gender/breed/experience puppyhood/know the animals background and how its been treated etc.
However- in reality I think I would keep taking a dog from deathrow.

Best of luck with finding your new companion. I found "petrescue" to be a great site for seeing the available animals.

A good choice though I think it is harder to raise a rescue dog. I have a rescue dog as my second dog, another boy with almost same age. I don't think i made the best choice.

    Good luck!!!!!

My Sheeby was a rescue and I couldnt have asked for a better dog. She is still young,18mths and gets into mischief but thats just puppies. Without a little bit of a challenge it wouldnt be fun.

    Thanks everyone!

Poppy is almost 8 months old so they will be close in age.

I got the number of the foster carer this morning and am going to call her to discuss further.

I hope it works out! I would love a second dog but I think it would be too much for us.
