I don't think it looks anything like a pit bull. They are probably just saying it does because of the colouring. I think it kinda looks like a kelpie in the face (which would also explain the colour)

Black and tan dogs often have the M mask over the face. It's very common in Rotti X's. I would list him as a Ridgeback X Kelpie, or Ridgeback X Rottweiler. Both lovely dogs in the photos : )

And a Ranger claims this is a Pit Bull ?

    Just gets scarier and scarier.......

Have no idea what breed he is but he's certainly not a Pit Bull.
Is council attempting to seize dog ? What area are you in ?

Tell the ranger he is a good old Heinz Variety, there are far too many breeds in him to tell.

Just one small note though. And you may not do it, it may just be in the photo, but in case you are unaware it can be dangerous to leave a check chain on an unaccompanied dog as there is potential for it to be caught on things and the dog choke.

If you do not leave them on the dog then please disregard that part of my post.

Best of luck with the ranger.

Thanks for all the replys, he must be a mix of everything im thinking but peta23 the face does look like a huntway very interesting and he is a very very active dog could explain it. I got him from the pearcedale RSPCA in victoria. The dogs were in a industrial area at my familys factory while we moved into our new home and got fences up etc. Ranger came and gave us 2 days to get them out because in industrial areas they are classed as guard dogs and need to be registered as guard dogs and they are far from that. They arent goin to seize dogs but the ranger said to us he dosent mind the american bulldog but he dosent like the look of the red one, he said it has a red nose and the only breed of dog with a red nose is a pitbull.

such a &^!#&*!@^#!@^*&#@ should not be responsible for saying whether any animal lives or dies. Only pitties have red noses? BS! He needs an education on dog breeds.

Plus I am pretty sure the RSPCA doesn't rehome pitties so there goes that as well...

    ack my blood pressure...

Something makes me want to say there is Husky in there, purely from the expression on his face, but his coat says otherwise.

There could be Pit Bull in there sure... but I can't see it.
