Thread: What Could It Be???

    Default What Could It Be???

Poppy has a scab looking type thing on the back of her neck, in between her shoulder blades.

I felt it when I was patting her.

    What could it be?

Should I get it checked? Or could it just be a sore that she's scratched or something???

    is it just a scab?
If it is do not worry unless it keeps comming back or doesnt heal.

Yeh! I'm pretty sure it's just a scab. It looks like one. But its pretty raised (like maybe 1mm) and just a tad smaller than 1cm squared.

I was worried it might be a tick so had a REALLY good poke around and looked at it a fair bit but it just looks like a scab! I don't know how she would of got one there tho. She has been a little escape artist lately and we have patched up another gap recently so maybe it was when she squeeeezed under the fence???

Yeh she might have just scratched herself on something.
I have noticed just how many weird places they can get scrapes since owning chiko. He doesnt have hair to protect himself so he scrapes everywhere.

If she's been squeezing under the fence, she could have injured herself that way.

Ticks can latch on anywhere. My mum got one on her ear lobe and some of her friends thought it was a stud ear ring. She got another one somewhere more hidden. Camping trips are fun.

could be a simple as a cut from under the fence, could be an itched mozzie bite, could be ring worm (if it doesn't heal up). Ring worm is more like a flat open patch with the hair surrounding it breaking and falling out. It's related to jock itch fungus, not worms, and humans can catch it from their pets (or sweaty brothers who share the bathroom).

has she had a microchip inserted recently? it may possibly be the chip moving as this is around about where they usually insert it .... or has she had any needles recently? the nurse or vet may not have put it in as smoothly as normal and has upset something .... but it sounds like something you should not worry about unless it doesn't go away or keeps returning

Just keep an eye on it and make a note of when you first saw it. If it gets bigger or still isn't gone in a couple of weeks you can take her to the vet.

My cat had a scabby lump that wasn't changing and was taking too long to heal and the vet used a piece of sticky tape to have a look under the microscope. He ended up just having antibiotics which helped him heal faster.

I also washed it with warm salted water and a cotton ball.

I was worried because I grazed my hand really bad around the same time and it healed way faster than my cat did!
