You don't need to feel bad. Your MIL has a mental illness and this little dog has been caught up in the fall out. It is very sad but it happens.

And as you said you've got your hands full at the moment and are being sensible by only taking on what you have the time and experience for - good on you for realising that, many people don't.

    Hi Jazz and Banjo

Having read all that, I don't think there is anything you can do. There are so many dogs out there that need homes, especially in NSW, that one that is already ruined hasn't got much chance.

The only thing I can think of is if MIL decides that she wants another dog in the future, to make sure she gets a very placid pound dog - that is already an adult and house trained and temperment tested, and not a terrier type - cos they're more likely to become biters in an unstable home. It would be better if MIL would be happy with a gold fish. Or not pet at all.

    It's very sad.

Hi, where are you.. or more so, where is the dog... I'm in Victoria and possibly can help... small dogs can bite when not trained and often they want some guidance and fall into line pretty quickly once leadership is established... the dog is possibly marked as a dangerous dog now, depends on what action is taken... if so yes she would be very hard to rehome... so sad.... hope you can work something out quickly...

Poor dog it is not the dogs fault but not much else to do now, only an experienced person could take that little dog and correct that behaviour, not likely you will find such a one, maybe your MIL is not to blame too much either, she may not be thinking too straight by the sound of things, so sorry for your your situation.
