    My thoughts exactly.

I'm hearing alot of 'I want to do this' 'I want to do something I enjoy' I don't hear you thinking of things from the dogs & puppies side at all

You won't make any money out of breeding dogs - it will cost you more at the vet, and with ANKC registration and health checks than you could possibily make. There's several breeders giving you advice here who can vouch for that.

Why don't you take some of the money your parents would waste on your dog breeding and do a vet nurse course or find a psychologist or careers advisor to do an "aptitude test" ie find out what you are likely to be good at and enjoy doing.

Or just spend $40 or so on "What color is my parachute" by Richard Bolles
JobHuntersBible.com: and do the exercises and figure it out for yourself and take the thousands of dollars it would cost you to set up dog breeding - and invest in study/travel towards that.

And maybe spend a bit of time volunteering at your nearest dog and cat rescue facility or vet, and find out a bit more about what breeding really gets you into.

and what if your dog needed an emergency c-section? would your parents pay for that too? If you could not find homes for the pups would you be able to keep them?

Before you decide you really want to do this can I please suggest that you have a look around various breeder forums. Once I thought it was something I wanted to get into as well, but after seeing what is really involved - there is no way I could handle it. If your dog died giving birth and/or the pups died - could you handle it? I don't think i could. It's these sort of things you need to think about.

I don't want to draw people away from this forum but I really think you should go post on this site:

Dogz Online Forums (Australia's Pure Breed Dog Community)

Dogzonline is pretty much the database for good breeders in Aus and that is a link to their forum.
Post on there what your plans are and get some feedback from other breeders.

I'm sure the Westie people would love to hear that all their dogs are crap.

    Girls....

My "troll" sniffing skills have kicked in again, i personally think the OP is a troll.

Maybe i'm wrong & the OP is genuine, time will tell though.

Crestie, that is very good advice you gave, I too agree that DOL is the perfect place for a "wannabe" breeder, bet the OP gets a good education over at DOL

For once I hope the OP is a troll, as I depair for our future generation if she's for real with the "it's all about ME" attitude.

Breeding is a non profit business, unless you have a pet store and breeding dogs that are really really popular. You will never come out of it with a profit. I know someone who is a so called breeder of excellent german blood line rottis with papers and his dogs are from some of the best rottis that were imported to victoria in the 90's I think. The poor guy has been doing it for like 7 years and I have never seen anyone so stressed because of the dogs. He now owes his vet somewhere around 5000 dollars for vet bills. Storage of frozes sperm. Sick puppies. Complications from time to time. I am sorry to say but he now wishes he had no dogs at all. Better of having a beautiful stud dog as a registered stud, and charge other proper breeders money for using your stud dog on their bitches. I'll probably get in trouble for saying what I just said, but thats my bit added...
