We get your point crested, unfortunately sometimes the situation is beyond abortion/education/prevention and people will do their best to help the bitch with the care she needs. Hopefully, like me, they then desex, learn from the experience and go on to educate others.

    Education is the key.

Kavik good luck with Momo's pregnancy and good on you for seeking advice. I hope people can try to be more constructive than some have so far.
It is a tragedy. Should never have happened.

Hope the puppies are healthy and find loving homes.

I hope all the pups will be desexed prior to going to their new homes so future 'accidents' will be prevented... good luck with the pups, you will need it... obviously you don't have a lot of experience with dogs and puppies take so much work to raise properly... enjoy them while you can... it goes way to fast...

Thanks for all the kind wishes everyone.

    Update on Momo:
She's showing such a major interest in food, though for some reason she prefers to eat it out of my hand than anywhere else, and she's gone far past affectionate. She won't leave me alone.

Her nipples are swelling even more, and sticking out away from her body, but I'm worried she's not gaining enough weight. I'm going to increase the amount of food she gets a little, so hopefully she'll gain as much as she needs in the next few weeks. ^^

I'm not able to feel much of anything with her belly, but I'm not pushing that hard--I'm scared to--so is this something to worry about (false pregnancy maybe?) or is it normal around this time? Thanks for everyone's help so far, I really appreciate it!

Oh and pictures will be taken soon as I'm going to get a new digital camera for my birthday. ^^

Don't go pressing on her body, you'll do damage.

I suggest you go to Misty Trails Havanese website and look for their breeding diary.

They are breeders who are friends of friends in the States, it gives you a step by step guide thru the different stages.

The next step you need to establish is when the mating occurred. Did it occur several times or did the male get to the bitch just once?

I'm surprised you didn't notice a change in both the dog and bitches behaviour when she was in season as the dog goes bonkers for about 3 weeks.

If she is only about 30 days along it is not surprising that she isn't showing and yes phantom pregnancy is a possibility. Anything is possible, 1 pup hardly show at all, 2 pups again hardly show at all or she will pop out in the last 3 weeks like my girls do.

I cannot write down a journal on here of all the things you need to watch for, though lately I've taken to writing novels on here is the subject piques my interest. Change to quality diet, increase just a bit but not much, overweight and pregnant is not a good combination. GO TO THAT SITE I RECOMMENDED.

Well said! It's starting to become a joke!

Crested go to the other thread, I get entirely where you are coming from believe me, I can even see the line in some ones post that is glaring out at you and probably rubbing you the wrong way.

Thanks for the tips, MAC. ^^

I knew she was in heat, that wasn't the problem. She went into heat shortly after I got her (on April 17th is when I got her), but she wouldn't allow Kavik to do as he wanted until the very end of April/beginning of May. I didn't think she was in heat at the time--I thought Kavik was just being overeager with a new female at the house--but now that I look back I realize it was beginning of the heat cycle.

I'm pretty sure that he got to her more than once while I was away at work. He would hardly leave her alone, though Bella seemed intent on not giving them the time to mate--she would bark incessantly at them whenever he would try--when I was at home, so I assume she was the same when I was away.

My only cause for not being able to stop this was that they're both outdoor dogs, and since I'm the only person at the house, I work and so cannot be around all the time.
