If she's a month along (1/2 way thru) she will only just be starting to show now.

I don't give any additives to the diet, that's my preference. I do however around now start to introduce her to puppy food as its higher in vits, minerals etc, my expectant mums stay on this now until the puppies are starting to wean.

You also need to consider worming.

About two weeks out from their due date I get the whelping box prepared and start having mum sleep there of a night. It should be a quiet room away from traffic and the other dogs for the first couple of weeks.

Neither an X-ray or ultrasound are 100% accurate as to number of pups to expect. If you are going to get an X-ray done wait until later for the bones to form more.

My Kelpies never suffered from morning sickness or tiredness nor did they refuse food or vomit on the day of whelping but my Whippet bitch showed all the classic signs.

    Good luck.

mouseandchicken: Thanks for the advice. =D I was going to get some puppy food from the store tomorrow, though how much should I give her at first? Or should I make it her entire food source? ^^

Won't worming harm the puppies, though?

And yeah, that's why she's not getting it done until she's about one-two weeks away from whelping. ^_^

Any advice on what to do for a whelping box? Did you build your own or buy one?

If I was you I would be investigating websites that outline dog pregnancy and the different stages. There are plenty of sites in the US that outline the stages step by step much like a diary.

Then if you have any questions about what you've read feel free to ask.

My husband built the whelping box, you can see pictures of different whelping boxes on websites. I do recommend a box with rails or as I prefer a shelf.

I wouldn't be increasing the amount of food just yet, just the type. Very good quality puppy food and raw.

Vets will X-ray around 55 days, when all pretty much formed.

I don't bother unless I suspect something is wrong.

Xrays on pregnant women are bad. Can't think why it would be good for puppies. Suggest changing vets.

Where's Di Dee - she went through this. There is a risk that the mum can squash and kill puppies. And there is all sorts of stuff to set up beforehand like a birthing box.

When you have a lot of time have a look at my journal thread of my oops pregnancy, lots there to skim over but it has what I fed her, how I weaned the pups.
